Why did I waste so much time and energy on an ultimate that never happens? What am I missing?

The real problem, is that if you prioritize Inherited Teachings, it will take about 15 of your turns to hit ultimate (7 uses, but it's a 2 turn CD). To do this, you have to skip JKL's stun, and Hoda's middle special, and you have to use JML's They Grow instead of Efflux at the opening.
In the meantime, you're just dying. So, sure, JML will hit ultimate on the third round of your turns, but everyone else will be dead. Or, you can prioritize the other specials, and you'll get ultimate when there is only one enemy left standing. Either way, it's pretty useless in PVP.
