It may not be a hard requirement (you may get to choose between gk or mace but it'll be much easier with gk) but it'll probably be needed in some way.
It may actually be required for a combat mission or for more get2 currency. Or it may be a mission tgat requires negotiator to get malevolence shards.
But it's unrealistic that a clonewars era lightside ship will be completely ignored.
