New player do's and don'ts
I've played since day one if launch. I'm not the best but I have picked up a few pitfalls in the game I've passed on to my guild that helped many of them get up to speed quickly. First off is the don't list as any game is most frustrating and intolerant of bad starts.
1. Hoarding crystals for chromium packs or hero's in shipments. Under no circumstances should you be doing this until you have at least hit the level cap (85 as of this guide). Your sole use of crystals should be energy refreshes to earn shard in cantina and gear in normal battles. The gear crunch in this game is steep although recent shop changes have lowered it a little. Collecting hero's in this game gets you nothing if the ones you have are not level and geared to max for where you are in the game. Even a minor character in the game can easily kill a powerhouse hero if he has sufficient difference in stars and gear. Example: Royal guard can stomp even CLS if he's gear and 7 stars and CLS is fresh off the line with nothing on him.
2. Stopping at halfway on a hero. I constantly see players saying I got x to 6 stars and gear 9 I'm going to start farming y. Mainly cuz it can take just as long to get the hero to gear 10 and 7 stars. But I guarantee you a full squad of gear 8-9 and 6 stars can be decimated by a single gear 10, 7 star hero (kylo ren or Savage for example). A bunch of mediocre equipped hero's is nothing compared to a core of maxed out hero's. Put the extra time in and get them that last star and gear x or xi. It will pay off far more in the long run.
3. Focusing on hero's not teams. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing someone chase around the next powerhouse hero and not have a single decent team for a raid. They have 5 hero's at maxed at 7 star and gear xi but not a single piece of synergy between them and can't rack up even the minimum needed in a aat raid. They maxed this one out because vids showed him soloing this raid in this phase. But by the time they got him there they didn't have the right mods and he's been rebalanced so he can't solo anymore. Chasing the next star is for whales and experienced players not newbies.
4. Ignoring chat. So many players get a quick boot out the guild because they jump straight into raids or tb and don't get clear on the rules or focus of the guild and ignore anyone that tries to tell them in chat.
Now for the do list:
1. Swgoh.gg this should be the first thing you do after starting a account in the game. Go to the site and link up your game account. It has invaluable info on characters and allows full screen access at a glance of every key part of your game. Your hero's, how they are geared, anyone else linked that's in your guild, etc.
2. Crouching Rancor the other key site that any player should have. It's invaluable for seeing what hero's to focus on for the guild raids and where they need to be at and what mods they should have. It links to your swgoh.gg account to flag your hero's at a glance to see how you measure up.
3. Chromium packs only. When your ready to start buying packs for more hero's stick to chromium. Any hero in the packs can be farmed in game and the ones that can't should be left for the whales. Hero shard packs are a slot machine for whales only. Anything in special packs that can be farmed in game can usually be earned in a a few days or a week.
4. YouTube they are a invaluable source for guides and info on every part of the game. Always check them first before investing in a new hero.
5. Energy refreshes. As stated above when first starting out all crystals should be dedicated to energy refreshing for gear and shards in cantina.
6. Discord the most popular chat system outside the game for guilds. It's free all you need after you setup is the invite code for your guilds server (also free to setup)
