Don't think of it as a math problem where they cancel one another out, think of it as a word problem.
You've got a switch with two settings: Can be revived, cannot be revived. By default the switch is set to Can Be Revived. Execute, Annihilate, Deathmark, and Rancor's devour flip the switch to Cannot Be Revived. Nightsister Zombie's ability says that its switch cannot be flipped.
So Annihilate (or whatever) hits the Zombie and kills it, then tries to flip the switch, but because her switch can't be flipped, it remains in the Can Be Revived position and the Zombie comes back.
Saying "New ability beats old ability" is true, but misstates why this is the case. New abilities are made with specific old abilities in mind, so they're written to tailor to the outcome they want. Old abilities were made with only the vague idea of what future abilities might be.
