There have been numerous instances of mismatched ability descriptions and ability functionality in this game. In some instances, the ability description has been changed to bring them in line. And in some instances, the ability functionality has been changed. All that we know here is that one or the other is incorrect.
In the end, CG can change the description, or the functionality, or heck, completely rewrite both. You are free to advocate for the outcome you desire, but don't torture the English language in your attempt to do so. It actually undermines your position.
But it doesn't appear to be a compound verb, it just reuses gain, like it's supposed to be a separate sentence
