Please help my squad development, I went down the random line! Need to salvage my squad advice.

You need both credits and "ship enhancement droids" to level up a ship. The main source of those is in the Fleet Challenges section that opens at level 60.

I don't remember if there are any sources of droids other than that challenge that you can access before level 60, so you might just have to wait, I guess?
