Possible Savage Brute Counter?

I was going against Savage with a Nightsister squad lead by Mother Talzin and noticed something that I'd like to confirm. Here's what happened;

Enemy squad all had Plague.
Old Daka stunned Darth Maul
Savage attacked Nightsister Zombie and when Savage returned Darth Maul was still stunned.

So my question is does a locked debuff prevent Savage's Brute skill from moving debuffs to himself? His Brute was Zeta'd due to the fact it was pulling up HoT's.
