Problem with high tier items

So, I'm at the point where many of my characters can't do much of anything. They get crushed in Arena and Galactic War along with the normal battles. So obviously I need to gear them up more.

The problem is most of the gear can only be found from doing high tiers of raids such as the Sith Academy and said raids are far too strong for my characters ((they can't even break through shields before the shields come back)). So I can't get the gear because I need to raid and I can't raid because my gear isn't good enough.

What should I do? Is there anything that can make them stronger or am I doomed?

Please sign up for and post your swgoh.gg, it is likely you are spreading out the gear you are getting from the other raids too much and so it feels like you are not getting anywhere.

You could also focus on mods, good mods can really help in many situations where gear is lacking, at least to some extent

I'm not getting this high level raid gear I need because the raids aren't being completed. When I gear characters I tend to focus on a few at a time and then the character needs this really high level gear I can't get, so I move on to another character and it goes on and on.

Raids not completed? Like heroic tier, which are not completed within the two day time limit? Or non-heroics thst take days with refreshes? Or....what tier raids, is your guild doing? (Rancor, tank and sith).

Sometimes they're time limited but i think this one resets every day. But it's still far too strong for me to do anything. I can't even break through Nihilus' shield before he wipes me out.

So, Tank raids and Rancor raids are time-limited (heroic tier) while the sith raid is non-heroic? Is this, what you mean? If it is, then that's good for a start. Non-heroic sith may take several days. That's not unusual. And your problem with Nihilus' shield is a quite common problem until you learn the strategy and build suitable teams to perform well in that phase.

How often does your guild raid? If it only has 33 members, and if not all of them are active every day, you may not raid very often. I would still advice to join a guild that raids heroic Rancor at least twice a week and at least 3 heroic tank raids every two weeks.

none of them are timed. but the Sith raid is still really strong. I've helped before; they must have done a higher level this time. I've been able to help defeat all 3 bosses but not this time.

We almost always have a raid up. This one has been a loooong time though

you are not doing the heroic tier on any of the raids. you should work on fixing this for the other 2 raids before you worry about a higher tier of the sith raid.

I don't know what *I* could do nor how these other raids will help. I've tried some of the timed raids and get butchered even faster.

    But still:

    Are the raids completed eventually?
How often does your guild raid each raid? And at which tier?
Do you still participate with whatever little damage, you can do, or do you completely skip the raids, and miss out on rewards?

I do what I can but it often ends with me having dealt zero damage with our current Sith raid and the heroic raids.

But the raids are completed eventually, and receive rewards, right?

They're completed eventually, yes. This isn't the first time the Sith raid has been too strong for me but after we did it again at a lower level.

Guess u sound pretty casual since u dont always check raids. Hard to find a better guild if u're casual, but do try looking in thr guilds section of the forum.

Quite on the contrary. I guess you missed the advice.

I saw the advice. The part about calling me a casual was a stupid waste of time. All I did was roll my eyes.

Well, not checking in to the game everyday is regarded by many as 'casual play'. Many non-casual guilds have rules, that all members should at least check in and produce a minimum number of raid tickets every. I don't believe you were called 'casual' in mockery.

Likely you are doing the wrong tier raid or using the wrong strategy/team.

You have to walk before you run can kill a rancor with your bare hands. (That's how that saying goes right?)

How do i check the tiers? I can tell you what tier Sith we're doing.

Tier 5, 5 star characters required.Which is odd since as you all can see I have 7 star characters but I still get pubstomped.

Tier 5 sith raid, and you attempted tier 6? And you get carried through the raids by your guild mates who do all the damage?
In that regard, it's a good guild for you. But raid frequency still matters.

Regarding raid tier, requirements, your characters and your performance:

In raids it's important to use a teams and strategies that fit the encounter. Different raids have different mechanics. Even different phases within a raid have different mechanics. There are several good guides for each raid out there. Check the guild events subforums here, or youtube to get inspiration.

No, the current raid is tier 5. I attempted it but as said, have barely been able to do anything. I get carried in the high tiers, yes.

Barely able to do anything? That's where a good team and good strategy will help you.

If you read all his rebuttals, it's clear he's beyond help. Good try though guys.
  • Listen man, you've dragged on this thread without actually following any of the solid advice these people have given you. Ill summarise them in the hopes that you find all the information in one place and actually follow them.

1)Leave your current guild and get a guild that has Heroic rancor and Heroic aat raid on farm. If you want, my guild has a few spots open and we have both of those raids on farm, plus once the revan event comes back, we will start farming heroic sith raid(we do tier 6 of that raid now).Message me with your swgoh.gg link if you are interested.

2)Get all the legendary heroes. Most important for raids are Jedi rey, CLS, Revan and C3PO. Thrawn is also a must have.

    3) Work on a good squad team and some raid teams. First order is a good start, plus once you have CLS and raid han you can solo the rancor yourself. Revan will let you solo the Haat and participate in HSTR.

4)Once you are in a good guild, spend 600 energy (cantina + normal) every day to produce raid tickets. You will naturally gain about 300 of that energy naturally, you'll have to spend your free crystals to buy the rest.

    5) Post atleast 0 damage in all raids. Dont worry about actually dealing damage until you have atleast CLS. This will give you the gear you need to compete.

Hope this helps. I dont think there is anything more you can do apart from these steps until you have progressed more in the game

I just reread your original post. After seeing your roster it also seems like you need to find out WHICH characters to gear up. Don't waste gear on characters, you won't be using much any way.

Furthermore, you are level 85 but only very few of your characters are higher than level 80. If you wish to climb in arenas, develop a team with good synergy, level them all to 85 and gear them up. Don't spread your gear and credits all over the place. Work on a few select characters at a time - with only a few 'side projects', which you may focus on later/next. Edit: "You will need credits to level up your characters. Make sure, that you can beat the highest tier of credit heist. You need those credits. A steady income of resources is key to success in this game."

I've been doing that. As I said: i focus on a team ((like Sith)) and then I hit this gear roadblock. i am unable to do anything else so I move on to another group lest my energy points sit there, forever unused. Then THAT team hits the gear block and I move on to the next.

I know this is way back on page 1 of this discussion, but anyway:

As already pointed out a few times by several posters, to build a strong team, you need to focus on that team, before moving on to the next team. Don't spread your resources too thin. Furhtermore, as I stated previuosly, you also need to know which characters to focus on - not only which faction. Take your sith, which you have worked on, as an example:

    https://swgoh.gg/p/546399927/characters/?f=Sith

You took your Dooku to gear level 10 - but left his rank at rank 3 (3 stars). He's still not very strong. If you want a strong Dooku, work on both gear level and rank. Some characters are strong/viable already at 3*, but Dooku is not really one of them. Palpatine is great as a leader, but somewhat squishy at only rank 5 (5 stars), gear level 10 and with no zeta on his unique. Nihilus and Sion are also great sith. Although they are among the characters, that begin being viable at rank 3 or rank 4, it would be a great idea to farm them all the way up to rank 7 (7 stars). Nihilus is viable at low rank, since his main ability is his Annihilate. He just needs to be strong enough to survive until that ability is off cooldown. Sion is a tank, and often tanks are viable at low rank already, as long as they have high gear level. Bastilla (fallen) is one of the characters that are viable at low rank as well - if geared up, that is. Her abilities include some protection regeneration, defense bonus, tenacity bonus and foresight. It all helps her survivability. A good team (for now) could be EP lead, Vader, Bastilla, Sion and Nihilus. Alternatively, under EP lead, you could also mix in some empire characters. Thrawn is one of the strongest in the game. I'd suggest, that you take Thrawn from level 69 to level 85 before you take your rank 2 Gar Saxon from level 82 to 85 (No, Saxon is not very strong. Don't waste any more resources on him. Save your credits, gear etc. for your strong characters - characters, you will actually be using).

This was just an example, since you mentioned your sith team yourself. As I previously suggested, you should have a look at one of the beginners' guides found on theses forums to get an idea of which characters are strong, and suggestions for the order in which you build your teams.

    Good luck.

    (Over and out)
  • I admit I haven't read the entire thread, but I've faced the problem of doing very little damage against Nihilus in early Sith raids with most of my teams. The only team that did considerable damage was Empire under Palpatine. Or rather, it was Palpatine himself who burned through Nihilus's protection with force lightning.

OK here go my 2 cents.

First, friend enough players who have Commander Luke, Jedi Training Rey, Jedi Knight Revan and/or Traya.

Those on their own can help you complete dark and light side campaigns 9 and the mod campaign 9 (this takes some time to three star, but is doable).

Once you have achieved this, start grinding for shards for the 5 Phoenix of your choice, to be followed by Kylo Ren Unmasked, Kylo Ren and 3 other first order of your choice. Once you have these 2 teams at seven stars, grind for gear for them until you have them at gear level 9.

Next, you start working on empire team (Palpatine and Thrawn you will unlock with Phoenix, Vader is a must, so pick 2 more). Once you have them at 7 stars, you grind to gear them to level 9.

Now you have the team to get R2D2 and BB8 (Empire and First order respetively). So get the characters you need for Luke's Heroic Journey and repeat the process to get them to 7* and gear 9. Then do the same for Rey's Journey.

At this stage, you can start working towards Yoda and Revan, which would net you a very strong Jedi team (Revan lead, Jolee and Bastilla from Revan's Journey, Old Ben from Luke's Journey and Yoda) to really do some meaningful damage in raids.

As you see, the above assumes you do not even have a guild since all the good ones ask for GP 1 million to accept new members. By now you would be in that range, and with 3 toons that are vital in raids (Jedi Rey, Commander Luke and Revan). Plus your Jedi team should be doing ok in Arena and in Galactic War (where now 50 completions are enough to blitz it, used to be 150 for me).

    Good luck!

Which Phoenix member would you say is least useful? As you can see I haven't paid any attention to Chopper but should I? And if so, who should i swap out?

Do you think an Empire team would work without Sith? if I used Thrawn or maybe Veers assuming I use a full Imperial Trooper squad? Or should i just stick with Palpy as the boss?
