#1 rule for new players: only use crystals for energy refreshes. Getting more heros only has value if the ones you have are maxed out and geared as high as you can for your level. And it's a blind pull so your just as likely to get a worthless one as a good one. And if you get a hero that you can't farm at the moment, you've wasted a pack. #2 only buy chromium packs for heros. Buying cyrstal packs for specific heros only gives you enough shards to unlock the hero or get them up one star. If it's a new hero you can't farm them except by spending more crystals in shipments. If it's a free to farm hero, you can get enough shards to unlock them in a few days so it's not a huge jump by buying the pack.
