This game is all about focus since you can spend every crystal or energy point only once. Best return on your investment is your arena team and your ship arena team, since they bring in crystals (and in second order scoundrels for credit heist).
Hence, pre level 60 pour all you got in your arena team: max their gear, their levels and their stars (in that order). Phoenix is a great start team, so max them all the time.
Next priority imo is ships and their pilots: Biggs is crucial, so focus on him after Phoenix. Also great are Tarkin as lead and TFP. If you make sure you have them well geared by the time you hit level 60, you will make a great fleet arena start with Tarkin lead, Biggs, TFP and your Phoenix ships. Throw in Boba since he is also a scoundrel, and see the crystald rush in, whicj you can then use to stay ahead.
Only when arena and fleet arena team are up and running, should you consider farming other toons. For example, since Phoenix will also give you Thrawn, your arena team after Phoenix could be Thrawn Tark TFP Stormtrooper and a fifth.
