The bonus is granted at start of battle and whenever R2 revives. The bonus should not be affected by what happens during the battle. However, if by the time R2 is revived another rebel has died already, then the bonus should be less than at the beginning of the battle.
'Ally' includes R2 itself. If the wording had been 'other ally' then R2 would not have been included. F.ex. R2 doesn't give the bonus to himself — only to other droid etc. allies.
Unique effects should not persist through death. Bonus from leader abilities do, however.
