Rey Gear VIII importance

How important is gear VIII for Rey? I really, really don't want to grind those 50 syringes to finish gear VII. I was hoping to wait for the next major update to see if all those 50 requirements get in...

How did you unlock even Rey. It s so slow. Yesterday i did the 9 hard missions and got only one shard of her :s

So at this speed i need 2 months..
