I personally barely touched ships out the gate and even now at level 83.
I took turns running Tarkin and Mace leads, both beefed up toons in their own right.
I currently have both Phoenix to 4* and the Falcon to 4* with those characters beefed up. Everyone else is 3* or less and brutally leveled/geared up as toons. Ships are near 83 only because they give me free ship money everyday to use.
So in a nutshell, my team, IMO is pretty crappy for being level 83 now with many in my shard at 85.
And with saying all of that I have never really dropped outside of the top 100, which always gets me 1250+ fleet tokens. Because of that, I have been able to focus farming on characters over ships and am only now or in the near future going to focus on farming ships and only dark side for Tarkin challenge (zetas).
Because of the generous top 100 tokens, I didnt see the point of going balls out because # 1 only gets you 1800. A ton of work for only 550 more per day.
