Should I swap to a scoundrel team for arena? (And questions about my current arena team)
So I am now level 64 and have been pushing for a Jedi team (or mostly Jedi team) due mainly to the RNG god and what unlocks I got.
So I wound up with a lucky Old Ben some time at the beginning and Leia shortly after. Somewhere along the line I also got Ahsoka. I have been playing for a while with this team:
Old Ben (4* - Leader)
Luminara (7*)
Ahsoka (5*)
Leia (7*)
Rey (5*)
So the rationale behind the first comp with Ahsoka was (aside from the fact that it's what I had unlocked at the time) was to have the Old Ben leader, and get the mix of hard hitting and heals from Ahsoka. As I levelled up it felt like that Ahsoka's damage didn't scale as much as the rest although it was still okay. She did save my team a few times with her heals though.
It got me to around rank 400/300 in the arena, at which point the brute-force tactic became less effective (i.e., I don't care if you have a taunt in your team, I'll just kill your tank and heal with Luminara and Ahsoka while I do it). I did try both Ventress and Echo for dispels. Even though Ventress was slower I found she wasn't being taken out from the picture as quickly as Echo was, so I sort of shelved Echo for when I get to do a clone team.
I have recently replaced Ahsoka with Qui Gon Jinn so I am now going this way:
QGJ (4* - Leader)
Luminara (7*)
Leia (7*)
Old Ben (4*)
Rey (5*)
This has now got me into the lower end of the 200 ranks of arena. The rationale behind this is - Rey is already fast and despite not getting boosted she is one of the first ones to attack. Old Ben gets a bit of a speed boost for his block ability. The downside is that Leia becomes the slowest (with the fact that you need to use a turn to cloak) but if she happens to proc on QGJ's assist (as QGJ attacks early) and then also procs her own bonus attacks she can wipe out a character from the get go.
But I am running into a bit of a gear wall at the moment, where my energy isn't enough to get 20 purple gear items on one character sometimes, let alone on all 5. I am also farming mods as much as I can but, when you add it all up to trying to get stars onto the non-maxed characters, I am starting to run out of credits.
I have read that a Scoundrel team is not only good in arena, but it's also a good way to make credits. The problem is that I hardly have any Scoundrels. I just unlocked Stormtrooper Han (which means I paused my Phasma grind), my Greedo is low level. I don't have any of the other good Scoundrels such as Lando, Cad Bane, Boba Fett or Dengar.
This would essentially mean starting over and I can't really try to keep up with maintaining my current Arena team while trying to also level the Scoundrels. Is it worth biting the bullet and starting over, or should I just push on with my Arena team?
On that note, I am considering swapping Old Ben out for the Royal Guard, as that would protect Rey in case her (and Leia's) first attacks miss so the "I kill you first" tactic fails. Old Ben is supposed to help with this by blocking abilities, but it isn't as reliable as a Royal Guard taunt which always procs. Although it can be dispelled.
