You could also do some other things like that with uniques that don't require changing the core mechanics of detonators. For example, a unique that reapplies them (like Vaders leadership). I'd prefer routes like these over redoing the entire game mechanic.
This is not a bad idea, but this doesn't help TD users be viable. Only teams built around this one new toon.
The reason I like a rework is it give you options to use toons that have this huge disadvantage currently.
