I always have to play in the last half hour before payout, and a lot of other people fight you then also. Just happened that I went from rank#11 to #7 and not 5 minutes after that I was sniped back to #11.
Also if someone already fights against you, you can't fight and have to wait until the fight is over.
And you can't fight someone who already is in a fight, so you also have to wait until your chosen target opponent is also ready. Means you will sit there every day in that time window and try to fight.
So if you e.g. go to sports that time every week or meet friends that time, it will be useless to start over.
