What the hell does f2p stands for???

So, I've been playing for awhile (lvl 85). I started my own guild (looking to join another to unlock GK and Han), I even have all the legendaries (minus Han) but I have no idea what f2p means and why it makes a difference. I've seen people on the forums categorize themselves as f2p or p2p (I know what that means).
