Why is RG game changing?

Don't get me wrong I'm farming and gearing, but why exactly would I replace Poe with RG(or would I)? I'm in a relatively new server, about 6 weeks, everyone's in the mid 60's and I maintain under 20 arena. I just got Poe to 4* and his special has been game changer to my crit team with sid(l), lumi, GS, QGJ, kylo. How does he help? I guess I'm curious what he best counters

  • At gear level 8(or 9 for some toons) you see an actual distribution of speed amongst the highest damaging toons. This, along with proper speed working, leads for characters like Poe and ST Han being next to useless in the speed meta for protecting glass cannons. Consider that at speed 142(or 144 with Han + Ackbar) Poe goes after my entire dps speed team.
RG taunt is out of turn, meaning that speed can be irrelevant, has a huge HP pool, stun, and has no real taunt CD(so even with removal a la humbling blow it can pop up next attack). This makes him ideal in a meta where two assists, one stun(one with a specific NS setup) and potentially one turn meter down all happen before even the fastest taunts.
  • I don't think RG by itself is game changing. But it reinforces a new playing style that's slowly moving away from early, heavy DPS. A big step in this direction was the reworking of Poe ofc, and the change to how speed works.

RG is harder to play against. His attack makes Barriss look tough, but the stun rocks. He saves your team. They drop under 50 you deal with his HP pool before you can finish. Put a healer that hits or annoys like Daka or Lumi with him and some DPS look out. I faced in GW today QGJ lead, Yoda, FOTP, GS RG all max and it was a very good challenge. Granted I was limping a little and on cooldowns. He forces you to really think on your attacks, plan it out.

I was not impressed with him too much, but the more I fight him, the more I say "dang I get it" Poe is very good in his way, but RG is one that is just a game changer.

Example is I stunned QGJ with Dooku it crit RG taunted. I busted the taunt with QGJ, yoda hit Dooku who countered, bonused, RG activated again. He allowed me no flow in the fight. I switched up added in Ventress too. I busted it with QGJ, busted it with ventress, still he activated again. He forces your hand.

You have 2 choices vs him.

    1. Take him out first and take some punishment as you do
    2. Go at the cannons, but if you get a bad RNG and don't 1 hit for some reason he activates and you break it, or have to kill him and take the punishment. Now if a healer is on that team you are really in for a pain as he is healed, the damage you did to the cannon is nullified by the heal.

This my friend is why he is a game changer. He is the opitimy of what a tank should be. I am thrilled to see it. He was viable in a GW battle vs all 70, 7* max gear team at gear 6 Purple 4* Lvl 45,lol. He did his job enough to give me the edge. Guess who is getting leveled up FAST. Red Death is.

This. Exactly what I needed to know, thanks!
