Zeta Mats (Fleet Shipments vs Ability Challenges)

I understand the math. Clearly over the long term this isn't the best plan. I'm not disputing that. The math shows that farming ships first is the more sensible long term solution. My problem with planning for the long term is this game changes all the time. Very rarely does it change in predictable ways.

As long as we are playing in theoretical imagination land, how about this theory. The user base continues to farm for dark side toons and ships. After 2 full weeks, thread after thread is opened complaining about how unfair it is that F2P are at a disadvantage because half the DS toons were P2P. The noise becomes so loud the dev team decides to remove the 5 DS toon requirement and allow all ships be eligible. Now what? Did I just waste a ton of time and resources on ships and characters I didn't need or want?

The one thing I know is that nothing further out than today in this game is a certainty. Hell, they could scrap the whole thing tomorrow. Realign crew vs ship power. Any number of things really. I know that my current path of least resistance is 20 days to get what I want. Planning for longer than that makes this game a chore...a job. I already have one of those. This is entertainment.
