I have a hard time taking a conversation seriously when both sides are perfectly serious about whether a level 60 would be better off rushing zetas or pushing for the ships to finish the zeta challenge. Any level 60 who isn't buying every Wedge shard he can get is doing fleet shipments very wrong. At that level a usable Wiggs is worth a lot of crystals per day, especially as there will be other Wiggs showing up in the top ten very quickly.
Why do I need Wiggs to do well? I sit right around top 10, about the only time I don't is when I accidentally sleep the 2 hours leading up to payout. And I'm using droids. The only reason I own Biggs is because CG was kind enough to give him to me for ships (Android user). Have absolutely no intention of getting Wedge for a really long time. Anyone who assumes a level 60 *has* to have Wiggs in order to perform well in the arena is doing non-meta awareness very wrong ;)

In any case, a level 60 player is months from being able to buy zetas from fleet shipments or get them from the challenge.
From the start of ships (so 2 weeks ago) it would take me about 50 days (roughly 37 left) to get to challenges. And that's coming from a droid user who is currently getting screwed over by ships and has to spend a lot of resources acquiring pilots because droids got shafted at launch. I'm also getting Dathcha from GW (1 of 3 shipments every day) until he's 5* (56/80 right now) so I can do crit dmg mod challenges and stay relevant in arena.

He is even further away from being able to use said zetas. He is also going to have much better things to spend his GW tokens on. I am currently at level 73, and I suspect that even working on a mix of characters, ships, and the odd gear piece I will likely still get my chosen ships to the appropriate levels before I am able to get zetas either way.
Yes, we are quite a ways away from using zetas (though not as far as you might think - I should personally be around 80,000 player xp past level 70; 5500 for level 71, not sure above that). Having zetas ready to go as soon as they can be used is valuable. However, this is a good point. I will include player level in the calculations I post so that this goes where I'm wanting it to (help those just getting to ships decide - our boat has, for the most part, sailed for either method).

But by then there will likely be other ways to get at least some zeta materials, just like there are now a bunch of different ways to get omegas than the daily activity reward. And there will almost certainly be new ships and new ways to get them within the next few months. I suspect that for all the math showing one way or the other is superior the true answer is going to be "It depends on your situation."
This is true, and it's also the uncertainty about which Ricter and I are attempting to make assumptions.
