This appears to have been fixed (for me at least). Since the update that introduced the new-style character/ship browser, I haven't had a single crash. Interested to know if anyone else has had the same experience.
I used to have this issue on my Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact. When I switched to my Zenfone 8 in June 1st, which has a much more powerful cpu, the issue stopped appearing.
