Same issue. Restarted device. Restarted WiFi. Cleared cache on device. Etc. - "connection errors" message even though I am using WiFi for everything else with no issues, including other apps. 

I also tried on the Bluestacks emulator. Same issues whether using WiFi or Ethernet connection. Cleared cache on emulator. Restarted emulator. Etc. Keep getting connection errors. 

YOU HAVE MADE BILLIONS OFF DOLLARS OFF OF US - FIX.YOUR.CRAPPY.SERVERS.

And please, take a lesson from Marvel Strike Force when you RUIN people's game time with this nonsense and COMPENSATE US.
