Repeating update download

I have been downloading the same update for months. At first, it was about once a day. Recently, it has been 4-5 times per day. This morning, it had downloaded 4 times already and it is only 11am.

The download starts with 1mb, then 12mb before it shows the cantina and indicates another 13mb background download. One of the main times I play is on the train to and from work and without unlimited data, this prevents me from playing at those times. I have missed numerous energy collections and event deadlines when I have been away from wifi signals.

I have tried deleting the application entirely and reinstalling, which had a reduced number of the repeating downloads for about a week, then it resumed as it had been previously.

My phone is old, an iPhone 5S, but if that is a problem I will more likely stop playing than upgrade my phone. I have nearly stopped a few times, but stuck with it since I am a guild leader.

    @Acovar If you are running  iOS11 onward  then it has an option called Delete unused app, what it does is free up space occupied by apps but retain the settings and data so that when you launch the game again it redownloads the assets

    Just downloaded the update again: 12:15pm

    and 14:35.

    and 15.50.

    and 20.00.

    and 21.25.

    and 21.40. (barely any time not in the game for that one)

    It varies, but not often a lot of space. I will clear some and see if it helps.

    Often I have only a couple hundred megs, but didn't think it would affect that. Maybe it does.

    I found that yesterday. I have more than 2gb free now, but still downloaded the update twice today.

    It has been a couple days now, so space must have been an issue. The requirement must be vastly greater than the size of the actual download, but it appears to be operating normally again.
