Import Family or House Lot in WRONG Directory (4th Feb Patch) Sims 1 Legacy BUG

Hi there,

I want to report this issue I believe others have had, but with more information. This is tested with The Sims 1 Legacy Collection with the 4th of February 2025 Patch "Executable version: Feb  3 2025, 07:43:19"

The Sims 1 has the ability to share Houses you build, Community Lots and even Families with other Simmers. When you Save your game, in Saved Games/Electronic Arts/The Sims 25/ UserDataX (X being the neighbourhood you play in) / EXPORT the game generates files you can share with other players. Families have the extension .FAM, A "Hot Date" Downtown Lot will have DTL etc etc.

Unfortunately in The Sims 1 Legacy Collection, you got the User Directories tangled when it comes to importing these lots and families. If you try importing either of these in Saved Games/Electronic Arts they do not appear available for IMPORT When you launch the game.

HOWEVER, if you put these files in the original directory of The Sims 1 from 2000 or The Sims Complete Collection (2005) which is in Program Files/Maxis/The Sims/UserData/Import they do show up in game.

So, essentially - the programming on the remasters has moved some of the functions of UserData out to it's new location directory in Saved Games/Electronic Arts but did not move the Import Lot function.

This should be very clear, let me know if a further explanation is needed and/or visual aids.

  • Hi all,

This issue was resolved in today's patch:

    • Importing Sims or Households was looking in the wrong path. Sims and households to be imported can now be placed in “C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\Electronic Arts\The Sims 25\UserData\Import”

If you're still experiencing this issue, please create a new thread so we can investigate into this further.

    Thank you!

  • lcinsightsie  I would suggest a couple of screenshots less for the report itself and more for the sake of other users who might be wondering about this.  Maybe one each of where and where not to put the files?  It's up to you, but I imagine that would head off some questions from people who aren't familiar with the file structures involved.

This doesn't appear to be the same as what you're reporting, but I'll link it for reference:

No, that isn't the same issue I'm having but my bet is their linked due to different levels of Windows authentication requirements between the User Folder / Saved Games and the C ProgramFiles Install Directory which is why this is a Bug that needs fixing. This is a half baked, poor design implementation.

See screenshots attached to illustrate the issue, and poor workaround. This should be fixed in a future update, as this is the intended design for Simmers to share families and lots. That is why you are seeing other posts on the forum discussing the "Randy" or "Luna" bug as they are downloading Save Games in other languages that are causing glitches. Until this is fixed and there's a reliable method of sharing Families and Lots between players, this will all persist.

Interesting. I bought the birthday bundle shortly after it was released, and then found that I could not import families.
At that time, the folder was located in: Users/Lenovo/Saved Games/Electronic Arts/The Sims 25/User Data/Import.
But when I placed .FAM files in there, the game did not recognize them and did not show any families to import.
Coincident with the release of the patch, I used the EA interface to delete Sims 1 and reinstall.
After that, the folder location was changed to: Program Files/EA Games/The Sims Legacy/User Data/Import.
And when I placed the .FAM files in the folder the second time, the game was able to see them and ask me if I wanted to import the families. But when I clicked yes, I'd get an error. After three tries the game would crash.
I believe this is what others are experiencing as well. But it was interesting to me that the folder seemed to change location.
