You won't believe this. Apparently it's related to the Simlish voice acting. I tried it. I mute "VOX" aka Dialogue sound effects and in Neighbourhood 8 played with Claire charming. When Brad and Tiffany came over. If I greeted them and was chatting and tried to save it would crash. I muted the VOX and saved... It worked!
BUT this isn't a solution... Why? Well - when you reload a save The Sims 1 doesn't actually save your music settings so VOX is reset and not mute anymore, meaning the Claire Charming household is NOW "corrupted". If I try to load into that lot now it will crash and I can't fix it because I saved the family while Claire was talking to Brad Burb.
