queenhunterr I did read your dxdiag, which is why I asked about the specific driver you'd want for your graphics chip. Since you got an error when trying to install it, please try this:

Bethlovtt Your graphics driver is also very much out of date. Here's the newest one for your iGPU:
Run it as an admin, as in, right-click the download and select "Run as administrator." Restart your computer after installing and before trying to play.
If you can't install it the normal way, try the other suggestion here:

I have been having the same problem, puzzlezaddict
I tried to install what I believed was the most recent graphics driver but the Intel site gave me the error message "something went wrong. Your system has a driver that is locked to manufacturer specifications. Please try downloading the latest driver from the manufacturers website to update. Installer exit code 1"
I tried going through the HP website as well, since I have an HP laptop, but had no success that route either
Any help would be appreciated - I really really want to play the Sims 1 again! Haven't gone back to play it probably since it first came out
