Sims 1 legacy crash

Hey guys, I just bought sims 1 legacy off of steam for the nostalgia but when I try to load it a little tab in my windows bar opens and instantly shuts again and that's all that happens. I looked on reddit for answers and they got me to download the old 64 and 86 copys of c++ and to change my compatability to windows xp. I did all these things and now when i load as administer it almost loads up (screen goes black, pixels get blown up to adjust to the old style and then it shuts down again. Now I cant edit the compatability setting and I cant get any further. Why would someone sell a game on steam that doesn't work. This is a big company. Can someone help me make a game just play please. Shouldn't have to get techy to play a game on steam. Might as well of pirated it at this point.

  • sphoeva  Please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

You should be able to remove compatibility mode by right-clicking the executable or its desktop shortcut, whichever you used originally and selecting Properties > Compatibility.

Realised I had to go through further administration paths to edit compatibility. Tried to adjust it to vista and xp, still no luck

Not sure its relevance but I have now uninstalled Norton Security from my PC

  • sphoeva  Again, you don't need to use ANY compatibility mode with Sims 1.  The game should run in Windows 11 without help.  And using a compatibility mode complicates troubleshooting.  So please remove the setting.

    Please open this location:

    C:\Users\your username\Saved Games\Electronic Arts

and remove or rename the Sims 25 folder.  Then try again to play.

If that doesn't help, look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Click Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Look for an error that happened at exactly the time of your most recent attempt to play.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.
