Hiya princesshannah98,
I really feel for you. I'm the same - loads of wonderful nostalgia wrapped up in the Sims 1 (and 2) - so it's heartbreaking when you're left alone to try and figure out why the game won't run.
Sadly nobody at EA cares, and they have no interest in helping you nor anyone else in this forum when it comes to glaring bugs and program crashes. It really annoys me that somehow it's okay for them to sell us an expensive re-release product that barely works as advertised, and then offer absolutely no support for it.
But hey - that's what the community is here for, and we can feel good looking out for one another where EA take our money and run.
Hopefully this will fix your issue with Vulkan:
- You need to go into Windows' settings, and find the 'Apps' section (the place where you uninstall apps).
- Look down the list of installed apps and find one named "OpenCL™, OpenGL®, and Vulkan® Compatibility Pack".
(Note if you don't see that in the list then you need to check if your system is Vulkan compatible - grab the Vulkan SDK and run the vulkaninfo.exe executable to easily check for Vulkan support on your PC - if your PC isn't compatible then I don't believe you can run the game but don't quote me on that) - Click on the "OpenCL™, OpenGL®, and Vulkan® Compatibility Pack" and select 'Uninstall', which will remove it from your PC.
Now try running The Sims 1 again and hopefully you won't get the “Vulkan Initialization Failed” error any more and the game will open.
I hope this works for you! 🙏
