Cheats aren't working in Sims 2 Mac DVD version

I recently purchased the Sims 2 for Mac on DVD since the App Store version doesn't support my OS. I'm on Mac OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks. Whenever I play the game most things work except for cheats. The only cheat that works is boolprop testingcheatsenabled true. Simple cheats like "motherload" don't work and nor do any build mode cheats. Also whenever I try to add mods the game doesn't load at all. Are there any updates for the Mac DVD version that are available to download? I've tried everything to get cheats working. I also can't use "body shop" and "package installer" as they are power pc applications. I tried downloading an intel version off the internet but it required mac os x 10.12 or later. Is there a version of the extras that will work with 10.9?
