DirectX 9.0c error on laptop with gtx 1660 ti in The Sims 2 Legacy Collection

Hi, everybody!
I have an error when trying to run the game saying "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c graphics adapter".  
I'm playing on laptop with gtx 1660ti graphic card.
Was able to launch in windowed mode by adding -w to the launch settings as suggested in other discussions but it runs only in very low resolution (640x480) and you cannot change the resolution later in the game. Adding -w -r1920x1080 to the launch settings doesn't work either.

If anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful. Or a comment from the EA if they happen to read this.
It's the year 2025 and I refuse to play the game in 480p, the game that I payed for.
