Frustrated and Flickering

Hi,

For some reason my Sims 2 Ultimate Collection won't let me have access to Smooth Edges. I'm running the game through Origin on Windows 10 and nothing seems to help the problem. It seems like I don't even have the folders that people are instructed to alter. Including a GraphicRules.sgr folder.

Please help me. What do I do?
  • The GraphicsRules.Sgr is located inside the program files not in your documents where the play files are saved. The instructions of how to set up and use the program GraphicRule Maker is here in the TS2 section. Follow the instructions as they are very detailed of how to make your game work on Windows 10 and set up the GraphicRule to make the game recoginize your video card.

ETA: Here are some instructions. Follow them closely. I couldnt find the instructions here (must be back on old pages) but these should work.

  • Hello! I've just recently begun to take the dive and fix my Sims 2 game, because like the majority of everyone else playing this game in 2020, in companionship with the *lovely* Windows 10 and just modern technology, my game was rendered completely unplayable. After around 2 days of work and a lot of help from this forum and many others, I've gotten to the point where I'm able to start the game, play it, and maneuver around inside for a good while on the highest settings my system is capable of. So that's a win!
However, along with this breakthrough, I've encountered yet another problem that I've never dealt with before and, until now, have never even seen another player have trouble with. My issue was first noticed in CAS, where the walls were completely missing and invisible. The paintings were still there, and so was the window, even the background is clear and unaltered, but no walls. There seems to be some kind of remnant of them, though? As if their texture were unreadable or, God forbid, corrupt. The amount of flickering pixels I got would change on how I edited the graphics settings in-game, but as of yet they have not been affected by what I have tried to do outside of the game (i.e., graphic rules maker, code editing, 4 GB patch, etc.)
*Note: I have all these applied and have totally exhausted every imaginable option.
Just to double-check, I went to see if this manifested itself outside of CAS as well, because if it was only there then I could have dealt with it; but of course, it seems to be everywhere. The weird thing is that everything else seems to be perfectly fine and rendered to an optimal state, it's just the walls that are giving me problems. They don't flash, they're not pink, they're just - not fully there, I guess.
I'd sincerely appreciate any kind of help anyone could give me in (hopefully) solving this issue because this is one of my favorite games and I'd hate to see it unplayable after so much work has been done already to simply get it to run.
I've included my system specs below and some photos of what I'm experiencing, thanks in advance guys!

  • I wonder do you have TS2 set to use anti-aliasing, if you do (inside the rules of of your graphic card options in the actual card settings) turn it off, see if that helps.
