Is Sims 2 worth to buy, or is it still buggy?

Hi!

I have been wondering about buying the Sims 2, the version which was re-released on windows 10/11 some time ago.

I remember hearing about it being so bug-filled, that it was almost unplayable and dissappearing in EA Play or something like that. I vaguely remember seeing lots of people talk about it in Tiktok etc. and people being pretty upset about it.

Am I tripping or remembering correctly? If I am being right, has the situation gotten any better? If not, what are the bugs you have encountered or bugs that are common with other people you might have heard.

I just want to know the situation more clearly, before spending any money. Thanks!

  • I recently bought the game - about 12 days ago. I am loving it. I have downloaded alot of custom content (new and very old) from modthesims and the game is working fine. I have only noticed one minor bug that I am searching for an answer. Otherwise it is running smooth and I am learning how to use cheats I didn't know about as a teen ;)

Everything seems a-okay now, so I'm assuming it was something wrong with the software for my RGB products I had before when the game was bugging out. I miss having the pretty colours but I can get something like a mood light or a bluetooth speaker with RGB on it - I'd rather have a functioning game lol

There's one I can safely say I've never heard of. I've accidentally taken a screenshot when I was lazily pushing cntrl+shift+C and didn't hit the keys correctly. Lots of people have done that, because C takes pictures. But this is a new one.

I wonder, do you perhaps need a new mouse? Not the same thing, but I recently had an issue where my curser would randomly let go of things I was holding in game, jump to any place but where I was trying to click, or I couldn't click on anything at all. I replaced my mouse and then it was fine.

Edit: I just saw in another post that you have replaced your mouse. Did the complete reboot you tried in that post work? Has it resolved this issue?

  • I mean, in the last 24-48 hours, my game developed a bug that persisted across multiple uninstalls and reinstalls where the mouse takes in-game snapshots - flashbulb effect and all - when I'm not even touching the keyboard. Even when the keyboard is unplugged. So... you tell me, I guess.

  • TL;DR I had some bugs in the beginning, but mostly my game has been running great and I'm glad I bought it.

In the beginning I had a Sim disappear, but I knew how to fix it myself and it's since been addressed in a patch. I had one Sim that somehow became corrupted and another who's Lifetime Want disappeared, but that kind of thing has always happened, and I knew how to fix those too. I've read that people had families disappear when going on vacation or the vacation neighborhood wouldn't load, but that deleting the vacation hood fixed that. They also said in a patch it was now fixed, but I saw in the forum just today that a player has had it happen to them. I never experienced that bug myself, my Sims have always gone on and returned from vacation fine.

A lot of players seem to be experiencing crashing, but the only crashing I've had is the sort of crashing Sims 2 has always had, since 2004. For some reason, sometimes, after 1-2 hours of playing the game will simply crash. The best way to deal with that is save frequently, quit the game after about an hour, delete the cache files, and then start it up again. But some players are reporting crashing at various points during gameplay frequently.

  • When I got the game on its initial launch the beginning of the year it was working perfectly fine until it wasn’t. I had made a sim that I had sent to university and played a good amount of the game and I saved like a normal person. But when I went to load up the game again my sim was nowhere to be found. When I went into building mode I could still see her picture on her dorm room confirming I was in the right spot, but when I went back out to see if I could play still nothing. And while I haven’t experienced any of this in my short play time but I know a lot of people were complaining that the ‘pink soup’ was back and causing games to crash. But then there are some people that have had absolutely no problems since launch. So, honestly if you want the game I would say do it because it is still fun for it to have come out so long ago but just be mindful there’s still some problems.
