Is there any way to play The Sims 2 without the extra packs?

I purchased The Sims 2  + The Sims 2 Packs on EA and when I went to play, there is no way to only play the original base game of TS2. I don't want the expansion packs or add-ons. Any way to do this?

  • Not really, no. The game is built like a lego tower, each pack providing a foundation for the next and the next building on. If you just pull one out, there will be a hole and the game won't work.

Back when we had disks, if you wanted to remove a pack you'd already installed, you had to uninstall the entire game. Then install each disk you wanted in the correct order so it could build up without a gap. When they went digital, they started combining packs. It made it impossible to install those packs individually, even if you owned them. Several of mine disappeared from my library and I had to contact customer service to get the combo packs added. When they released Ultimate Collection they combined all of them and made it impossible to separate them. Same with Legacy.

All that said, if there are things in individual packs you do not like, there may be mods to disable or hide them.
