Once stairs are placed in build mode, they cannot be moved or deleted

Once stairs are placed in build mode, they cannot be moved or deleted. You can not pick them up to move them, or use the sledge hammer to delete them. They are stuck. Modular stairs and regular stairs. In my case, when modular stairs are placed beside one another, one can be deleted but the other is stuck,

  • This bug has been fixed in the latest patch. Placing and deleting staircases now works.

    • Modular staircases could not be deleted and could be a source of infinite money.

Please be aware that staircases that were placed before the patch and could not be deleted were not fixed. To delete them, enable the boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true cheat and, in Live Mode, hold Shift and click on each step to Force Error on it. Click Delete in the error message that shows up.

If this issue still appears in your game, with staircases placed after the latest patch, please start a new thread.

mlampy You can upload them to some other service (such as Google Drive or Sim File Share) and link them, if the upload doesn't work here.

Here is the google drive link to the ZIP file that contains a bugged stair lot.

mate54I've added another stair bugged lot to my google drive link above. I simply moved a family into the house. Deleted the roof and started to make a first floor. I then tried to delete them and the smaller portion deletes, the bigger does not and just gives me money back over and over when I try to delete different ways.

  • princesso505 8lgia1r015hj Lelana87 I have been able to replicate this issue on the lots that mlampy uploaded as well as on several other lots.

It seems that, when the bug is present, the only set of stairs that can be deleted is the last one placed on the lot, no matter which staircase you click on. This affects all modular staircases in my game. The same thing happened on the Roth family house from mlampy as well, the only staircase I was able to delete was the one on the left of the front porch.

When trying this in the Pleasant household in a fresh Pleasantview, I was able to delete all their staircases until I started placing my own. Then only the last one was deletable. It happened on all foundation types as well. I tried to play around with CTRL-Z / CTRL-Y to undo/redo changes and see what happens, but at that point my game crashed. I will have to investigate that further.

For now, it seems like the only solution seems to be forcing an error on each step. It is a lengthy process, but hopefully this will get fixed. To delete affected stairs, do the following:

    1. Enable testing cheats (press CTRL-SHIFT-C and enter boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true)
    2. In Live Mode, hold Shift and click on each step.
    3. In the pie menu that pops up, select Force Error > Delete.

You will have to repeat this for every step on the staircase. I have also tried this with stairs placed on the ground (which meant they would lower the terrain), and I wasn't able to flatten the terrain even after forcing error on every step and getting rid of it.

Thank you so much mate54 for looking into this! I'm really hoping for a fix eventually. How does that process work anyway out of curiosity. The players have this issue, and report it. It gets replicated and confirmed on the forums. How does it make its way from confirmed to getting incorporated into an fix through an update?
