I'm having the exact same problem. When I spoke to someone from EA, they said that it is a known issue and that they are working on a fix.
Absolutely ludicrous that the game be released this way.
I talked to someone from EA yesterday and they told me the same thing as well. They said they are currently figuring out on how to fix it. I hope it does get fixed as many people were excited to play this re-release only for it to either not start or it does start but then crashes during game play.
