Sims 2 Super Collection - Differences + Any Essential Mods?

I'm downloading Sims 2 Super Collection right now (which has been a masochistic exercise since every time my Internet connection goes out, which happens all the time in rural Scotland, it restarts the download from scratch, but 12 hours later I'm still not giving up), and I'm wondering: what differences will I notice? Does the game look any different from the old regular Sims 2 on the Mac? It says on the App Store that it's got several enhancements exclusively for Mac but I don't really understand what that'll mean in my game:

- Native resolution support, including 4K and Retina
- Drastically improved performance, thanks to an all new renderer

Also, my old beloved Sims 2 game gradually nuked itself after about 5 years because we had corrupted the poor soul out of that game without realising it. Now I'm wiser and have seen this guide for avoiding corruption, but I'm wondering whether there are any mods that really help with preventing corruption.

Wow you have moved fast getting your game/stories up and running I am still working on terrain and sky mods before I start filling up my hood with builds and families lol

That's a lovely pic and your graphics are fine I bet you are well pleased getting it for US dollar price instead of the sterling rip off we have to put up with here ( yes I am back in the UK now too and I think nuff said about that dire situation-) )

How did you get your pic that size mine seem to come out so tiny by comparison?
  • Thanks, I really hit the ground running - though a home business and a toddler after going so long without playing either has definitely been a challenge! Part of it is that I don't play with any mods in TS2 so I didn't have anything to set up there. I think I was just so excited to try out the new stuff (Super Collection comes with University, which I've never had before, and also three stuff packs I'd never had) I just had to make a family. I did get a really good laugh reading all of the object descriptions that came with the Holiday stuff pack first, though. :)

Yeah, right now I have most of the graphics on medium I used to have everything on low - I can't believe TS2 had reflections in mirrors! I never saw that before on our old computer.

I took a computer screenshot for that one, rather than an in-game screenshot. I think on a PC the equivalent is Print Screen?
  • @elanorbreton - I installed all of the neighbourhoods that came with the expansion pack but I didn't place any families except the one I made straight away. I've never played with University before, and it's been a long time since I interacted with any of the premade families in Pleasantview, so I thought I would just make one family and take it from there. :) I also don't have any CC in TS2 right now. There's enough new stuff that came with University and the three stuff packs which I've never owned before, plus from all of the other expansions, to keep me happy for a long while. :)

Years ago when I played TS2 I had tons of buggy CC that my sister and I downloaded indiscriminately from the Exchange, but it's kind of nice starting with a clean save for now!

Yeah, her hair comes with Bon Voyage. I've had a lot of fun rediscovering all of the stuff that just came with the expansions so maybe you will too! :) I am so excited to be getting back into TS2 again. There are little things that I forget it couldn't do but mostly I'm just wowed at how everything will stay the same and not move on without me, so I don't have to frantically rotate so I don't miss everyone's big life milestones. :)

Do you and @SPARKY1922 like to design your own worlds when starting off in TS2? I do love building worlds in TS2 so will go do that eventually but wanted to try out some of the new Live mode stuff first. :)
  • Oh wow, that is all a lot of impressive stuff! I can see why it takes awhile to get your game prepared. It's fun building up a new world and then knowing that the whole thing will be ready to play in once you are ready to dive in with stories. :)

Sims 2 is the yardstick by which I judge the other games, as I played it much more than Sims 3 - I was only just warming up to Sims 3, really, when Sims 4 came out! (And then my hard drive crashed and I lost all of my Sims 3 characters... :disappointed: ) So I guess it's my default vision for how a Sims game looks, and I personally like the aesthetic of TS2 as is. But that is so cool that you have so many resources at hand to make the game look how you want it to! :) The creativity of the Sims 2 community will always inspire and amaze me. :)

I was about to start today back in that map but now clean installer is playing up and causing me problems and I cannot move forward without it being fixed. Every time I think I have something resolved and can begin my game something else is going wrong >:)

Thanks for the link and I'm glad you finally got clean installer fixed. My game won't start at all now so I've uninstalled everything. Trying again, but it's very frustrating - I just wanna get in there!!
  • @elanorbreton

Wont start why whats going on?

when i very first started playing often sims 2 would not start up and I got an error code however after a while I discovered that by going into Origin my games and clicking on sims 2 update it solved that problem every time.

    Have you tried that?

I updated it, but it hasn't made any difference. I am making a new thread about it so as not to go off topic.
  • @elanorbreton

I am not expert but will help in any way I can as I understand the frustration I will look out for your new thread :)

    @Terra

I am glad you are inspired that's what it is all about and when I first started another more seasoned player was posting pics of everything they were doing in game and it set me off and I have not stopped since-)

I love modern or fantasy styles I am afraid medieval reminds me of the words of the writer in Once upon a time TV show who said something like why would I want to live in snow whites world full of bad water and dysentery or words to that effect lol I tend to agree does nothing for me either :)

I have still used medieval sites from time to time especially for new harvestable plants I can use in game on the following link, you may have to search around a little to find everything

nixed sims does a lot of medieval stuff and loads startrek stuff i ignore lol

harvest crates and so much more

Farmers' Set (With harvestable crops, electric fence & social scarecrow

this site has tons of info on everything

    http://www.woodensimolean.com/node/3

    community fruit and veg garden

    http://modthesims.info/d/303911

Lots are much more difficult to find depending on your style and whether you want no CC or if it does not matter

    For example

I like Starbucks, McDonald,s, Baskins ice cream and pizza hut etc in my worlds and they come with some serious cc from the creators to make them look good but then I temper that with looking on mod the sims 2 for no cc houses as modern as I can get

Rflong7 makes houses for 2 and shared them on the following link

    http://forums.thesims.com/en_Us/discussion/873012/sharing-my-ts2-lots-up-to-18/p1

it just depends what you are looking for I will risk cc if its something I really want and then try and look for other things CC free

also there is a great sims 2 you tube player called The jessa channel she does lets play videos which includes all the mods and ideas for all the things I have talked about before such as legal careers with involving a courthouse, prison services and police/fire etc tons of new ideas to try..

One thing I love about 2 is all these things can be achieved with a little work and the outcome is usually satisfying but when trying it with 3 it rarely works lol
  • Ahahahha I had to laugh out loud about what you said about living in the Middle Ages as I am currently getting a degree in Medieval History. :D So I do love playing medieval Sims hahahah though I go to TSM for that mostly, of course.

Thanks for all those links, lots of cool stuff to check out.

It's funny, I've been playing TS2 since 2007 and there's still so much I haven't even done with the official content, let alone all of this cool CC people make!
  • Hey where do you buy cats/ dogs/ wombats from - I cannot seem to find a store in the sims 2 super collection please tell me where and what store you can buy from I have looked at downtown and blue water. Thanks
