This was resolved with the patch yesterday:
Sometimes a Sim (or multiple Sims) would disappear after the player moves to another lot or neighborhood, or after leaving and rejoining the game despite saving
Unfortunately once a save is affected by this issue it cannot be undone, so the fix only applies to new saves created after the patch.
