Build-n-Share Challenge #180 - The Sorceress

Challenge Deadline: Wednesday 31st August, Midnight CST

Mihoshi Eternalwing, one of the most powerful sorceresses of her world, had always viewed her magic as a living thing. It kept her from taking her magic for granted. Usually it was like a well trained pet. Obedient. Responsive to her every request with a precision that other magic users could only dream of. Usually.

This time however it swept her along like a tidal wave, overpowering any attempts she made to stop it or alter it’s course. All she could do was try not to drown as she waited to see what her magic was going to do. Finall, the surge stopped.

Everything stopped.

It was a breathless moment where everything hung suspended in one crystalline moment. As if Father Time had abandoned his post. Then the world exploded.

When Mihoshi awoke, she was lying on the ground with pieces of her home around her and unfamiliar stars above her. She got up very carefully, taking stock of her health. Bumps, bruises, and scrapes seemed to be the worst of her situation. However the effort of casting a small ball of light was worrisome. It meant she was mostly tapped out in terms of magic. Her magic would come back, but it would take time.

You stare at her in utter fascination, your cup of tea abandoned though still held in your hand. “So I found my way to this town,” Mihoshi says, flipping her long, dark hair over shoulder. It gleams amethyst in the light. “And met some faeries who told me what you did for them. Now I’m here talking to you.”

“And…what do you need me to do?” You ask hesitantly, finally putting your cup down.

Her dark purple velvet eyes take on an annoyed look. “I need you to rebuild my castle. So I have somewhere to live while my magic recharges and I track down the things that got scattered across time and space,” She says slowly and clearly, as if speaking to someone who isn’t all there.

“….okay.” You shake off the mind boggling feeling and seize onto the one thing you can wrap your mind around. “What do you need in a home?”

“Um, I don’t really know,” Mihoshi admits, blushing. “I inherited the castle. There was my pretty lavish master suite and a bunch of guest rooms. I really didn't pay much attention to how many rooms I had. I had my lab, which was fairly large, and-”

“Lab?” You interrupt.

“Yeah. I did magical experiments and stuff there.” She says in the same kind of casual tone someone would use while talking about getting a cup of coffee. “And a huge library. I think it was at least 3 or more stories tall. I really need my library.”

“Did you have a budget?” You ask hesitantly.

“No. Part of the castle that came with me was the treasury so…oh! And if you could wall off my lot, or make it really hard to reach or both, that would be great. I get…cranky when people interrupt my research to ask for stupid things like immortality and eternal youth. Then people start complaining about disappearances and it just goes down hill from there.” She suddenly laughs at your horrified expression. “I’m kidding. At least about the last part. I really don’t want to be bothered though.”

“Oh…um. No problem.”

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS:
The Sorceress Castle
I really just let myself go with this build, I tried to make it feel medieval but still have some comforts. The three story library was quite a challenge because I wanted to give the castle the feeling of spaciousness with high ceilings with lots of wall hangings.
The main floor is a large hall with the dining area and seating area. Adjacent is the small but serviceable kitchen. There is also a formal 2 story open parlor with a crystal ball and spell book podium that opens to the first level of the three story library.
The second floor is comprised of the guest quarters, 3 private bedrooms and a guest bath as well as the second level of the library with a small balcony that overlooks the formal parlor below.
The entire third floor is library with two desks, a chess board and more books.
I decided that the Sorceress's master suite should be close to her lab but far from the "guest" quarters, so I made her a special place all of her own in the basement. The master suite has a couple of surprises that help make it feel light and airy even though it is underground.
Since I don't have the Supernatural EP, I used several of the science items, a lab station, a cauldron and a few other odds and ends to give a feeling of a magical laboratory.

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: I wanted to build a sort of gothic, arts and craft castle that looked like it had been around for generations of owners and architectural styles. I wanted it to feel like each owner felt the need to add a wing here or a room there until the whole thing looked a bit like a hodge-podge and organic structure. I wanted it to look almost as if magic played a part in keeping the structure from flying apart. The library conceals the entrance to the lab and there is a special room for a mostly black and four legged familiar. Due to some leveling issues some pictures may show messed up windows or furniture pieces. I think I fixed everything for the uploaded lot and removed most of the pictures, but if some have snuck in I am sorry. Alright that's about it, hope you enjoy.

Massive Luxury Overdose
I came at this build with a back story built in my head from the initial story for the build. The structure is built by an aristocratic family that started as purely using white magic in altruistic fashion healing the land and helping the population around them but the family has wrestled through its generations with eras of black magic dabbling leading to full out dark sorcery and persecution of the locals. It’s been transformed during dark years into an imposing walled in estate decadent and opulent, lorded over by dark flying gargoyles, while lighters eras have seen the installation of gardens, greenhouses, tea rooms and even, as though to make a statement to their ancestors, windows inserted into the outer walls giving a glimpse of the interior watched over by white marble lions. Through the back and forth wrangling of the generations the structure itself came to embody the different magical paths.
The current owner is firmly on the side of light and working to clear her families name and reestablish their legacy as one of kindness and generosity. Of course the past- and even the future- fights against the current change. It was during a particularly awesome night of magical wrangling that her castle ripped itself to pieces under the strain of competing ideology. We’ve reconstructed it here- a place somewhat out of time built of the past, the current and due to time manipulation via the perverse merging of the magical and the mechanical, built of the future, giving it a Neo Gothic feel blended of old and new. There are additional descriptions on the pictures via the link. Thank-you for taking the time to view my interpretation of the Sorceress’ Castle.
6 bedrooms- 4 guests rooms in the Guest Annex and a master suite and child's room in the Family Sanctuary. There are 4 add. Servants quarters in the basement and 10 baths in the structure. Formal front buildings separated from the private family rooms and exterior space in the back. Kitchen, servants quarters (empty during the current generation) and a hidden "dark laboratory" are in the basement.

Build-n-Share Challenge #182 - For Your Amusement

Challenge Deadline: Monday, October 31st, 2016, Midnight CST

You are up to your elbows in blueprints at your drafting table when Rose bursts into your office, slamming the door and throwing her body against it. She’s breathing hard. Her eyes are wide and panicked.

“Rose! What happened? What’s the matter?”

“I...I…there’s someone...outside...just standing there…” The hairs prickle on the back of your neck.

“Okay, Rose,” you say, grasping her arms to help her focus. “What else did you see?” Rose hesitates and then her words come out in a whisper.

“I think it’s a CLOWN.” You relax slightly, because as long as you have known Rose, she has been a caulrophobic.

“All right, Rose. Why don’t you stay here while I go take care of this.” She nods and shudders, but moves away from the door. “Just shut the door behind me. It’s going to be fine.” You give her arm one last reassuring squeeze and then head into the reception area where you stop cold.

He’s there on the front walk, eerily illuminated by a single streetlamp. His skin is chalky white, unnatural, and his face bears the unmistakeable makeup of a clown. He is standing completely still, just staring at you through the glass front door. A chill runs up your spine. You give yourself a mental shake, square your shoulders, and then open the door.

“Can I help you, sir?” you ask, hoping he can’t hear the quaver in your voice. No response. “Sir. Do you need something?” Then slowly he comes toward you. As he approaches you see his face more clearly. His makeup is sloppy, with black streaks of mascara running down his cheeks to a red gash of a mouth. When he smiles at you, it is gruesome and you cannot help but shudder slightly.

“Is this you?” He rasps, handing you a business card you hadn’t realized he was holding. You take the card, noting his dirty, too-long fingernails. You glance down to see the firm’s business card with your name embossed on it.

“It is. Who are you?”

“I am called Jangles.”

“All right, Mr. Jangles. What can I do for you?”

“It’s just Jangles. Perhaps I could come inside so we could discuss it.”

“Mr...ah...Jangles, we are just closing up for the night. Why don’t you tell me briefly what it is you need, and then we can set up an appointment time for you.” During daylight hours, you think to yourself.

“I would like for you to build me a funhouse.”

“A funhouse? That’s an unusual request.”

“I find the activities at the Fall Festival to be lacking and pedestrian. As a clown and magician by trade, I would like to offer the townspeople an alternative for fright and delight all year round.”

“That sounds intriguing, Jangles. I’d be happy to help you. Why don’t you take this card and call me in the morning so we can schedule an appropriate time to go over the details.”

“I look forward to it. Good night.” With that, Jangles skulks away into the shadows and you lock the door behind him with a satisfying click.

Build-n-Share Challenge #183 - The Four Sister of the Apocalypse

Challenge Deadline: Wednesday, November 31st, 2016, Midnight CST

You aren’t quite sure what to make of the group standing in the lobby of your office. It’s only four young women, but they somehow seem more…intense than you would expect. Even Rose's little dog had retreated to its bed, silently.

One of the young ladies is clad entirely in black, pants, vest top and all. Her short raven hair has a single streak of vivid purple, the same color as her eyes. Like the others, she has some solid muscle showing in her arms. She’s tall, nearly six feet you would guess. She introduces herself as “Roxanne Planes, also known as Gunk.” Seeing your confusion she explains that its short for gothic punk.

On her left, one of her friends stands with military straightness. She has dark brown hair pulled into a ponytail and rich green eyes. She’s a perfect example of the beautiful girl next door looks. Clad casually in blue jeans and a t shirt under a leather jacket, she still looks ready for duty. Gunk introduces her as Carrie Logan.

Journye is the third of the group, standing near a window. Somehow she reminds you of a wolf, with a lean narrow face and a stronger build. Surprisingly, she has royal blue hair and green eyes. Something about her and the way that she studies you makes you think that she’s been in more than her fair share of fights. She too wears a t-shirt that does nothing to hide her muscled arms and a pair of loose jeans.

Gunk gestures to the last of her friends, Sarah, as if deliberately reminding you of her presence. And indeed she had slipped your mind, even though you had looked at her just minutes ago. Clad in all white, she wears a bodice style top, white pants and a white overcoat. Even her boots are white. Her black and white streaked hair is cut into a shaggy style that compliments her feline features. Something about her yellow eyes is very predatory and unnerving.

Instead of inviting them back to your office, four of you settle into chairs in the lobby. Sarah opts to stand near Gunk. Clearly the leader of her little group, Gunk says, “We’ve heard you’re the best architect in town.”

“Well, I try.” You say modestly.

She smiles, friendly and disarming. “Well, we need a house. Several houses actually.”

“Several?”

“Yeah, one for each of us. Eventually. For now we need a place for the four of us while we get established. We are a band called The Four Sisters of the Apocalypse and got a solid signing bonus for our first album. We want to get established before we go for separate houses.”

“Makes sense,” you say, not entirely believing her claim of a band. Not with the constant scanning of the room and general alertness they are displaying. “What would you like?

“This first house is going to be mine,” says Gunk. “I like space and privacy. Since we dont know how long its going to take to get established, we will need rooms for all four of us. Preferably with our own bathrooms. It could get ugly if we have to share one or two bathrooms. We need someplace to practice our music. I sing and play guitar, sarah plays drums, Journye’s on keyboard and Carrie plays bass. We are all big on fitness and sparring, so we need a place to work out. And a garage. Sarah babies her car.”

“All very doable. Whats my budget?”

“About 60k.” Gunk tells you. “And if you could decorate their bedrooms in their favorite colors, I suppose I could put up with that. My favorite color is purple.”

Carrie makes a rude gesture at Gunk then says, “My favorite is brown. Journye’s is blue and Sarah’s, surprise surprise, is white.”

“Not a problem. Anything else?”

“How soon?” Asks Gunk with another friendly smile..

On the side yard there is a pond with a bench for taking in the sunset.
Upstairs there are three more bedrooms each with a private bath.

Are you in need of a lot of space for a modest budget? You need not look any further than the industrial area of Bridgeport. This converted warehouse is full of potential and in need of a new owner to make it their own.
Downstairs in the converted loading bay there is a 1 car garage, two bedrooms with en suite bath. A large loft area that has been divided into a living, dining, kitchen and art stuido space. Upstairs there is a gym as well as a rehersal area and dressing with instruments (drums, keyboard, guitar and base) with a lounge for downtime during rehersals. Two bedrooms with en suite baths upstairs as well. Outdoors you will find the native plants have overcome the old car park but some of the area has been reclaimed for an herb garden, a small sparring area has been set up under the trees.

Build-n-Share Challenge #184 - The Golden Years

Challenge Deadline: December 31st, 2016, Midnight CST

“Thank you for agreeing to meet me here. I apologize for all of the boxes. Shipping our belongings back from Shang Simla has been such a headache. Here’s your tea, dear.” Laurel Stafford is quick and cheerful, fluttering about the tiny apartment like a little round bird. You sip your steaming chamomile tea, noticing hints of strawberry-blonde hair amid all of the gray and the way the soft wrinkles in her face deepen when she smiles.

“Don’t mind the boxes,” you say with a dismissive wave of your hand. You’ve seen far worse. “Thank you for the tea. Now tell me, how can I help you?” Laurel disappears behind a tower of cardboard, muttering something unintelligible.

“Aha! Found it!” She drops a manilla folder on the small country table and wrestles to make just enough space to squeeze into the empty chair across from you. Inside the folder are pages of copy paper with magazine photos of cabins and cottages pasted next to handwritten notes. It looks like a Pinterest board before computers were invented. Rose is going to get such a kick out of this. “My husband, Flint, is retiring from the military next week after 42 years of service. We’ve traveled all over the world, and now we’re ready to put down some roots. Some place small and quiet where we can relax and enjoy this new, slower chapter of our lives.”

You flip through her collages of antique wood-burning stoves, rough hewn rocking chairs, and screened porches with water views. It makes you want to curl up under an heirloom quilt with a good book. “It looks like you want a rustic little house near water.”

“Oh, yes!” Laurel claps her hands together, eyes lighting up. “Access to water is important. Flint loves to fish and plans to spend much of his retirement doing so.”

“I have a good idea of the style you prefer. What other amenities do you need?”

“Well, we never did have any children, so it’s just the two of us. We really only need one bedroom and one bathroom. I’d like a small area to garden and a screened-in porch. Mosquitoes just love me. A fireplace would be lovely.” Laurel’s face goes dreamy for a moment. “Oh! And a garage or carport for Flint’s truck -- he likes to tinker on it from time to time.”

“What kind of budget do we have to work with?”

“We’ve saved up $30K. Can you have it completed before the year’s end?”

“My team is finishing up another project, but we should be able to have you and Flint in your new home by the end of the month.”

“Wonderful! Now, how about some more tea?”

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: It's not so much a rustic cabin as you'd find in the mountains by a lake, but it is an older brick and wood siding beach house very close to the water's edge. The interior furnishings are older and collected from many years of travel all over the globe. Everything that can be upgraded has been. The main book case has complete series for all the main skill books, to include charisma, alchemy, and inventing. It even has a basic martial arts book from their trip to Shang Simla. The old car is almost ready to roll, but that would price the home over 30k; so, one more time working on the car and you'll see another nod to nostalgia.

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: Cool earthy color scheme inside and plenty of cabin like furniture with a modern feel. House has a cozy library, living room for friends to visit, and basic bed bath combo. Fenced off garden to keep those pesky animals away with a pathway leading back to the house.

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: The cabin was perfect! One open room where you could see the view from almost everywhere except the bathroom. Big enough to tuck in some of the furnishings and decor they had picked up in their travels, but small enough to feel cozy and easy to clean. There was even an old dock Flint could fish from.
The garden was modest but offered enough room for both flowers and vegetables, even a small sitting area where Laurel could take tea with guests in the summer. There is always a third seat in the house to welcome a friend over. But the main use for the sofa is a cuddle in front of the fireplace.
Retirement doesn't mean giving up an active lifestyle. There is plenty to keep them both in good shape: treadmill, working out to the radio or TV, swimming in the lake, even just dancing together.
Mounted over Flint's desk - where he keeps up with bills and the like - is his prize fish. He also has a plaque and shelves with mementos of his career - including a few tattoos. One is of Laurel shortly after they were married, with her long red hair.
They tucked their luggage under the stairs and in the eaves of the loft, not quite ready to give up the possibility of future travel.

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS:
Yay! Retirement after 42 years of military life. They have been talking about this day for a long time. Lauren and Flint knew they wanted a small, cozy place by water. When they found this place they knew they were home.
After traveling the world they had accumulated a lot of stuff!! Boxes of stuff! Most of the things they had collected over the years would have to go...there just wouldn't be room for all of it. Flint asked Lauren to choose only a few of her favorite things, the ones that really meant something to her and donate the rest to a museum. Lauren kept two floral prints, a few knickknacks, a set of fans and a sword that were gifted to them. She also carefully packed up a few of Flints medals and his most prized mounted fish. She also went through her photo collected and had her favorites framed for the new house. Flint surprised her with a digital photo frame full of pictures from around the world.
The house they eventually decided to call home is a one bedroom open floor plan cottage/cabin.
The kitchen has an updated self-cleaning stove, courtesy of Mr. Handyman Flint and a canning station for Lauren to put up preserves and jellies from the garden produce.
Just off the kitchen there is a screen in porch with a settee, art easel and tea table, Lauren loves to have tea in the evening while watching the stars come out over the beach.
Instead of taking up valuable space on the small the lot, Flint decided to invest in one of those new fangled "All in one" bathroom appliances. He upgraded it to unbreakable and so far it's working out well.
The cozy living area has a fireplace with Lauren's collection of decorative relics on the mantle and a dining area near the window that is open to the summer breezes coming off the nearby beach.
The bedroom is decorated with some of Lauren's photography and a bit of their collection from their world travels.
Outdoors there is covered parking for Flint's truck, a training dummy so Flint and Lauren can keep up with the martial arts they recently took up in Shang Simla and Lauren's garden.

I choose to build a log cabin because I had never built one before and wanted to try out the look and to see how I could use that to create something that looked like it had been there for a while. I wanted it to feel cozy and welcoming, but also intimate and personal. I wanted this to feel like a place that no one would want to move away from in a long time.

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: 1BR 1BA with full length front screened porch and lean to carport. Decorated in calming neutral nature colors and of corse for Christmas. Large indoor fireplace and outdoor fire pit area. Very simple living for two people. Natural trail to the water runs right beside house. Home has lovely view and many small animal and wildflower spawners. Small garden in the rear with a view from the bedroom to check on the growing veggies first thing in the morning. Kept the landscaping pretty but simple so the natural Forest could be observed better. I entered in advanced because of the special techniques I used to make the lean to car port. I'd also just like to let you know I now live on a farm and we can't get good internet because our house is so far from the road, so I have to pack up my PC and 4mo old baby and take it to a friends to upload my pictures and entry. Sometimes I don't write as much as I'd like to in my descriptions because of time constraints.

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: After travelling the world for Flint's military career the Staffords were ready to lay down some roots. They chose Riverview due to the river running through it and Flint's love of being near the water for the early morning fishing trips. The Stafford's Mini Lodge is slightly bigger than a normal log cabin, leaning more toward a lodge, but decorated in warm neutral earthy tones with pops of color throughout. Rustic siding can be found inside as well as natural stone and brick. Although looking large, the cabin/lodge is very cozy with the large fireplace being the focal point; Laurel's beloved rocking chair in prime position to feel the warmth. The main level features a screened in porch with tea set, so Laurel can watch the sunrise while sipping on a cup of tea, a small but efficient gourmet kitchen to suit all of Laurel's baking and cooking needs, small dining area that opens up to the front room. The second level consists of the master suite in a loft style open to below. Along with the master bedroom, there is a desk space for Laurel to write and reminisce about their world adventures, which displays their knick-knacks, a spot for Flint to keep in space, and a small little sitting area and bookshelf. Outside, is Laurel's small but prize garden that she tends to every morning after her tea. In the garage, there is space for Flint to work on his handiness skills on the scrapbench. Hopefully these two will enjoy their retirement in their Mini Lodge.

You’re tacking up the Staffords’ holiday card to your memo board when Rose bursts into your office, waving a fistful of papers at you.

“You are never going to believe this! Did you catch the mid-season finale of The Real Housewives of Sunset Valley? Wait -- nevermind. Of course you didn’t. It’s not your kind of show. It was crazy!” Rose doesn’t get overly excited about much, but for some unfathomable reason, she is addicted to RHSV. You give your head a shake and try to follow the manic stream of words pouring out of Rose right now. “So you know how Nancy Landgraab is co-VP of Doo Peas Corporate Tower with Vita Alto’s husband Nick, right? And Cornelia Goth’s husband, Gunther is CEO there? Well, Nancy, Vita, and Cornelia were all out to dinner for their weekly book club, which is really just code for lots of nectar and passive-aggressive comments, and Vita remarked how it’s such a shame that Cornelia’s husband doesn’t make more money so the Goths could move into Summer Hill Court. Cornelia, obviously furious, said that Gunther mentioned that Nancy and Nick have been spending lots of late nights at the office, suggesting that something inappropriate is going on between them. Nancy denied it, of course, but Vita didn’t believe her and threw a glass of nectar in Nancy’s face. Then Nancy said that Vita’s daughter, Holly, looks like a llama and threw her own glass of nectar in Vita’s face. And THEN Vita flipped the entire table over while Cornelia just cackled. It was completely bonkers!”

“Rose,” you say, grabbing her by the shoulders, “BREATHE.” She takes a gulping breath in and relaxes almost imperceptibly. “What does any of that have to do with us?” Rose thrusts the papers into your hands.

“The assistant director of RHSV just called to ask if you had looked over the nondisclosure agreement he had couriered over this morning. I had only just signed for it and hadn’t even opened it when he called.”

“A nondisclosure agreement? For what exactly?”

“Well, apparently, as part of the twist for the second half of the show’s season, there’s a new family joining the show. They’re going to build on that empty lot on Summer Hill Court between the Landgraabs and the Altos -- you know, the one with the best view of the entire valley.”

“So they need our firm to build a house for the new family.”

“Exactly. And since you’ll be working closely with the network and the family, the assistant director needs you to sign the nondisclosure so you don’t spill the beans about what the family is like or any neighborhood drama that happens during construction. The Landgraabs and Altos are not likely to be happy about the chaos.”

“I will take a look at it.”
“Well, do it quickly,” Rose says. “The second half of the season starts mid-February, and they need the house move-in ready by the end of January.”

“In that case, I need you to call the Ryunotens’ office and see if either Michael or Evangeline can meet me for lunch today to go over this contract.”

Rose claps her hands and spins on her heel, calling out behind her, “Consider it done!”

I chose this Italianate style house that has 2 stories and a two car garage. Low-pitched roofs, overhanging eaves with tall, narrow windows arched and/or curved above and a square cupola above the front doorway.
This home features a huge master suite that is the length of the house with a private sitting room, a bedroom that opens to the pool and spa and large bath. A butler's room with bath and separate entrance are at the other end of the first floor. There are two more bedrooms upstairs with separate baths. There is also a laundry room, guest bath and a small "pool" bath off the patio.
A large formal living room is the main focus of the house with a large kitchen with access to the dining room and the living room. A den is just next to the front door.
The second floor is all about kids and family with tv, stereo, kids play stuff and the two kids bedrooms both with private bathroom.
The back of the house has a large patio area covered by a pergola that extends the entire length of the house and is partly covered with heather. There is a bbq area with fireplace, a separate bar area for the pool and yes, that is a tennis court (even though they can't play, I always wanted to make one). There is also a play area for the kids and a fire pit.
At the edge of the property facing the ocean is a small gazebo for watching the sun go down.

(A note on the cost, it seemed to change depending on how I viewed it - one price during the build, another when it was saved to the library, and still a third from the edit town menu. I made sure all 3 prices were under the $175 budget limit)
LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: I used elevations to enhance the impact of the house upon arrival, it dominates the surrounding landscape and commands attention. The house may be built with 'new money' but if it looks old enough maybe people will forget that. Having the pool and entertaining areas out front appealed to the snobbishness - everyone can see them, even if they aren't coming for a visit. Why have money if you can't show it off?
The kitchen has that old-world appeal, there are fire places in the main entertaining rooms and the master suite. The formal dining is sunken, and there is a second outdoor dining/entertaining area.
It may take some time to fill every nook, so there is plenty of room to expand and grow. The main house has three bedrooms with en suites, the fourth bedroom is found in the detached guest house with private bathroom, kitchenette and sun patio.
The pool has a small bath house, and plenty of patio area for guests to mill about.

Some pics may have gotten out of order, sorry. 4br 4 ba laundry, ballroom with jukebox, custom walk in showers, imported marble tile throughout most of the house, large butler still gourmet kitchen, many animal spawners, nice private patios with outdoor speakers, bar, outdoor cooking/eating area. Master with large balcony for meditation and garden tub. Guest bedroom has vineyard feel, and large bathroom. The custom pictures above the bar, in the nursery and in the nursery bathroom were created by me and are pictures of my new daughter at 2months (she's almost 6mos now), her name is Sunny. They were just too cute not to include once I realized they matched. We had a house fire and the Mr met a unicorn. Lorenzo had a rebellious day tagging street art and riding his motorcycle. LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: The original design for this house had a garage at the end of the hallway between the gym & servant’s quarters, but I have to scrap it to save money. This 5 bedroom, 6 bath Mediterranean style mansion is the perfect home for the family who loves to live glamorously & show off their opulence with parties. The interior is decorated with a mix of luxurious glam & avant-garde design. I especially did this with the home office, as it is more sleek & modern to reflect Giovanni's avant-garde style. Each of the children have their own bedroom suites with private balconies, while the master suite has a large walk-in closet. Perfect for Francesca to primp & house her many animal printed garments. And a wealthy family home isn't complete without a servant's quarters, which is located right next to the home gym. There's plenty of room inside (two living areas & lavish dining room with bar) as well as outside (poolside seating & outdoor bar & grill) for entertaining.

Build-n-Share Challenge #186 - ZeroD0xy

One of the best parts of this job was how frequently you got to meet new, and interesting people. Your latest client, Mallory Abbot, is no exception.

A short young lady with a cheerful smile, accented by a lip ring, sits across from you. She bubbles with an excitement and enthusiasm that couldn’t help but charm you. Repeatedly she brushes her remarkably long hair, dark brown with two blonde streaks in the front, back over her shoulders.

“So, yeah. This is my first real home. I’ve always lived in apartments and I’m so looking forward to being able to stay in my own place for longer than a minute.” She said happily. “I’m new to the town and I’ve heard from a TON of people that you’re the person to see when it comes to starting out.”

You smile with pleasure, always delighted to hear that people are talking about your work. “I might have a little bit of experience with it.”

She giggles, “Oh jeez.”

“So what would you like in a home?” You inquire, clicking your pen.

“Well, I don’t have a big budget. But I’d really love to have 2 bedrooms. I have 3 cats, so I need room for them to roam. I have a few friends who might move in with me later, so I need space for the house to get bigger. I also like to cook so a decent kitchen would be great. I’m a streamer so I need an office.”

“A streamer?” you ask, a little confused. The pictures that pop up in your head are…odd to say the least.

“I live stream games on Twitch.tv under the name Zer0Doxy. I also make videos for Youtube. People come and watch me play and hangout in chat. Its how I pay my bills.” She explains with the patience of someone whose had to explain this a lot. Then proudly she states, “My chat is the best chat in the world. Anyway, I need a great office where I can stream and make videos. Here’s the complicated part: my haunted computer just finally fried itself. I need a new one to fit into the budget.”

“And what exactly is your budget?”

Real Talk: We’re doing something really unique for you guys this time around. Zer0Doxy is an actual live streamer who plays a lot of Sims, as well as other games. We’ve made arrangements with her to have the builds submitted for this challenge featured on one of her live streams! We will be sure to post when the live stream will be so that everyone can be there as she looks at your creations.

Upstairs has one bath and four bedrooms, the fourth utilized as an office for streaming online, and there is a coffee machine... for streaming online all night. Warmer colors add to the calming and private feel of the bedrooms.

Since the owner of the home is going to be po I upgraded the already existing pool park across the street with lots of fun stuff to do. Hot tub, easel, chess, horseshoes, pool and sunbathing chairs. Each shipping container can be elongated and the bathroom already has enough space for washer/dryer future expansions. Went to do my research on the build and found cool pics of Zer0Doxy that I made into custom paintings using TSR workshop. I wasn't going to upload the lot because of my internet situation but I will if Zer0Doxy wants to DL it for the custom art. The office is done in fun colors for a great webcasting background and there are two planter pots inside for gardening. 0fficeDoxy: 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom starter home with office.
I was determined to make this build entirely CC free, as the client represents a sim just starting out who would primarily shop at places like Ikea and Walmart. I hope I can give her the full experience.
With that in mind, I created an Industrial Chic Modular Starter for our Streamer. Placed on an over sized lot, there is plenty of room for expansion either up, by adding additional floors; down, if her future roommates are of the sun-sensitive persuasion, or if she wants to add a full production studio; or out, the large back yard could easily support a larger footprint without feeling confined.
Exterior and Yard:
Built on a 20x30 lot, the house boasts a full brick exterior, one-car parking pad, front and back decks, Central Air, a fire pit and mature privacy shrubs along the back of the lot. The front and side walk ways connecting front and back are lined with wild growing flowers for low maintenance. The metal roof is recyclable and easily uninstalled/reinstalled for renovation projects.
First Floor:
The first floor is one and a half floors high with an almost entirely open concept floor plan (excepting the gaming office) and balcony view of the living room below. The high ceilings extend the feel of the space, and create flow for air circulation. There is wall to wall hard wood flooring and exposed brick interior walls. The feature of the home would be the two and a half story atrium living room. Stepping through the front door provides an unimpeded view of not only the open concept first floor, but the living room below – accessible from the stairs set into the balcony railing. What would be the formal dining room has been entirely converted over to a streaming space, the gaming office, complete with sound dampening shingles and track lighting for optimal set up. A camo colored computer is waiting on a sleek desk and chair set which rests on a rubber mat, protecting the wooden floors from scuffs and reducing noise. The casual dining room sits between the kitchen and the gaming office. It is picnic style seating with ambient lighting from the surrounding space. Separating the dining room from the kitchen is a living wall half-wall for air purification without closing off the space. The galley kitchen boasts open cupboards, Fridge, Stove and sink. There is plenty of natural wood counter space for future appliances and upgrades. A door off the kitchen leads to the back patio. Floor to ceiling windows offer ample light and radiant heat.
Sub-Floor:
Head down the wood and stone stair case to the lower floor. To the right is the living room. A mishmash of eclectic furniture and styling give the space a welcoming feel. A monitor is mounted to the brick wall, so friends can watch the game from the comfort of the living room (see also: move noisy people away from recording equipment). A 3-piece bath lies opposite the stair case with plenty of space for the addition of a tub unit as the home progresses. The master and spare rooms lie behind the staircase. The master boasts a custom built-out wardrobe, double bed with custom linens and a trunk for storage. The spare room doubles as an exercise room, should one be so inclined. There is a single bed, side table, shelf for temporary storage, trunk and bean bag for occupants. There is also a pull-up bar, ample space for cardio or strength floor exercises and a radio.
Pet Amenities:
The cat food bowl is located in the kitchen under the open counter space. Toys can be found for play throughout the house. A scratch post is located off the living room. The litter box is located on the lower floor in the bathroom under the sink. There is plenty of room to roam and the furniture is easily replaced (see: cheap) should something become damaged.

Backstory:
Across the bridge stood the little firehouse that serviced the community. As the city grew and more residents moved in, City Hall called for a larger fire station to be built in the city centre. The little firehouse that had served the community for hundreds of years was soon forgotten about and left dilapidated under the bridge. Once the proud beckon of the city, the little firehouse became victim to squatters, vermin, and time. One day an investor came along, after having read in the newspaper: "Beautiful old brick period fire station available for conversion" and saw potential. The investor decided to restore the building to its former glory, keeping some of the historical firehouse pieces that were left behind (sadly, someone stole the fire pole). The little firehouse has now become a 2 bed, 1 bath cozy home with an office.
Lot Description:
A cozy 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom converted fire station with a high-tech office (with a green screen wall) complete with a fire escape. Decorated throughout with exposed brick, an industrial feel, and some decor from the old fire station, the upgraded kitchen sits at the back of the house opening up to the living room where you can sit in front of the fire with a good book. Off to the left of the main living area is the office, while upstairs is the main bedroom, guest bedroom, and bathroom at the end of the hall.
A perfect home for someone just starting out. All appliances have been upgraded and playtested.

Expansion Plans & Notes:
Even though I built on a 20x15 lot, there's plenty of room for expansion and room to grow. The house can be extended in the back and a further level can be added on to where the office is. And as the house isn't on foundation, there is also potential for a basement.
As Zer0Doxy wanted a good kitchen and the office was where her job takes place, I focused the money on these areas, most everything else in the house is uber cheap and there isn't even a TV. Hopefully, the streaming will keep Zer0Doxy super busy where she won't need any other form of entertainment besides her computer.

Build-n-Share Challenge #187 - The Second Sister - Journye

Your phone beeps, startling you out of the creative trance you were in. It beeps again from somewhere within the clutter scattered over your drafting table. Frantically, you toss things around until you locate the offensive object. A notice flashes on the screen: Phone conference with Journye. You let out the annoyed sigh that only an interrupted artist can understand, before dialing the number.

A highly annoyed female voice greets you by name against the backdrop of a series of bangs and slams.

“Journye?” You ask, hesitantly.

“Yeah. Hows it going?” She says amiably, before grunting. There’s the sound of something breaking.

“I’m fine…Is this a bad time?”

“No. Its fine. We’re just setting up for a concert tonight. Sorry about the noise.”

“It sounds like you’re in a warzone.”

“Really? You’re doing this now?” comes the acerbic british voice of one of the other sisters, Sarah.

Journye says “If I don’t, Rosie will kill me.” Theres a sharp cry in the back ground, then a series of loud cracks. “Shit. Can I call you back in 5?”

“Um…sure.”

Its closer to 15 before she calls you back again, sounding a little breathless. “Sorry. Ah, one of the stagehands hurt himself.” The noise has dropped considerably.

“Its not a problem. So what can I do for you Journye?”

“Well, I need a place. My wife and her business partner are coming into town. Lily’s gonna take over my old room at Gunk’s for a while. But Rosie and I need a place to live. It would be nice if I could have it close to Gunk’s, next door or across the street. Something that’s a short run or walk since we rehearse at her place. Need at least 2 rooms. Pretty. Rosie’s more girly than I am. Former cheerleader, fashion designer, nutritionist, likes pink… So, I need a place to hang out away from the girly stuff and she needs a place to work on her fashion stuff. I’m not exactly a homemaker, or whatever the word is, like her. Decent kitchen. Really nice master suite.” Journye sounds like shes at a bit of a loss. “Um, good security system, fenced back yard…”

Sympathetically, you say “She didn’t give you much direction did she?”

“No. I’d have dumped it on her if she wasn’t busy getting ready to move her and Lily’s store out here.” The tortured sound in Journye’s voice moves you to suggest something you normally wouldn’t.

“Would you like me to decide on the details for you? Then we can change things out if she doesn’t like it.”

“If I wasn’t already married, I’d marry you.” she says with relief clear in her voice. In the background someone calls out something. “Ive got to go. Thanks!”

“Wait! Whats my budget?”

“Oh. Um, 45?” Then the line goes dead.

Build-n-Share Challenge #189 - New Beginnings

Rose is at her desk, you are sure of it, it’s where she was just seconds ago when you pushed the intercom, but you are sure you hear an incredibly soft knock at your office door. It was so quiet that you think you must have imagined it, when you hear it again. “Come in.” You say.

The door opens and a young woman enters your office. She is petite, with russet red hair, green eyes and you can’t help but be reminded of elves as you look at her.

“I am so sorry to bother you, but I thought, as I was here anyway.”

“Are you lost?” You ask. Having never seen her before, you wonder how she got past the eagle eyed Rose.

“Ummm, no, but I was passing and I was wondering. I am new to the area, I have a little saved up…”

She clams up and her cheeks redden slightly.

“You were wondering if I have a space in my calendar to design and build you a home?” You ask, smiling. You like this woman, she seems to radiate a certain tranquillity.

She smiles and nods.

“I’ll have to check with Rose, but I think I may just have a free spot for you. What was your name?”

“It’s Fern.”

Pressing your intercom again, Rose’s voice asks if she can help you?

“I have Fern with me in here.”

“You need a Fern, in your office?” She asks bemused.

Chuckling, you gesture to Fern to speak.

“My name is Fern Arìaith, you looked so engrossed when I came in…”

“Wait, what? You got past me into the office? Without me noticing?”

“Well, I wanted to see…”

Cutting Fern off, before she finishes.

“Fern wishes us to build her a home Rose.”

“Ah, OK, you want me to check the diary?” She asks

“Please.”

You hear tapping and clicking as Rose works her magic on your less than perfect computer system.

“Blasted thing.” You hear her mutter beneath her breath.

“Ah, OK, yes, we can fit her in at the beginning of next year?”

“Rose, we can’t have poor Fern sleeping rough on the streets for the next couple of months, are you sure you can’t find a space to squeeze her in next?” You ask, knowing that asking Rose to do the impossible is the best way to get her to do anything!

“Well, if I call our next client and ask them to postpone their next project, I guess we could…” She is mainly talking to herself at this point and you can hear her cogs turning as she thinks. “I just need to think of a suitable reason.”

You cough and sneeze loudly in the direction of the intercom.

“What’s that, you’re coming down with a cold?! Well, you couldn’t possibly take any new clients for at least a fortnight.” You can tell that she is smiling as the intercom clicks off.

“Well Fern, what would you like us to build?”

A charming one bedroom/ one bath beach front cottage done in warm natural materials and rustic landscaping. The exterior is done in polished, naturally harvested driftwood with white accents and a topical blue roof. The interior is done in rough hewn, white washed paneling in the main room with smooth, cool plaster in the bedroom and blue tiles, reflecting the sea outside in the bath room. Full wall windows look out toward the ocean while the front of the house has higher placed windows for privacy. Fully outfitted home includes stereo, television and computer for home officing! LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: For this build I wanted to do something really simply, but also elegant. It was ultimately the natural building material requirement that really drove my thinking. Most houses are already built out of wood, which is a natural material, so I originally thought that it wasn't going to be a challenging requirement, but the more I thought about it the more I wanted some truth in materiality. I didn't want to hide the wood as structure or pretend I was using natural materials when it wasn't shown. Insert the yurt here. This building type is, when done in a traditional way, one of the more true construction types. It consists of a wooden lattice held in place by tension lines covered in a wool insulation and then some canvas for waterproofing. Everything is shown for what it is and displayed in a beautiful way. It had the truth in materiality I was seeking so I built a yurt. I feel like in being true to the materials I also managed to create this open space that was free flowing and spirited. The focus here became not on the inside, but the landscape. Hope you enjoy.

Build-n-Share Challenge #190 - Mr Boddy's Mansion

Challenge Deadline: Wednesday, May 31st, 2017, Midnight EST

You stare at your current client in confusion.

"I'm sorry. I must have misheard you. The person who wants me to build them a house is...deceased?"

Michael Ryunoten, attorney and happy client, nods a bit ruefully.

"I know this seems a little odd. And normally, its not a case I would handle. However Mr. Boddy was my very first client when I was starting out in law and I continued to handle his transactions even after I transitioned to business law. When we made out his will, he was very specific about what he wanted. And very insistent."

"Ok. And what exactly is it he wanted?" you inquire, feeling more than a little hesitant about this.

"He wants a mansion built to some unusual specifications." He pulls out a document. "Mr. Boddy demands that his mansion be at least 2 stories. The first floor is to contain an entrance hall, leading to a central foyer. Off of this central foyer he requires a kitchen, dining room, lounge, ballroom, conservatory, billiard room, library and study. All of these are to be separate rooms. There is to be a fireplace in each of these rooms except the kitchen and conservatory. The conservatory must contain a pool. It doesn't have to be big, it simply has to be there and useable. The kitchen must have low end appliances."

You lower your pen in astonishment and disappointment. "Michael that doesn't make any sense!" you protest. "Why low end appliances?"

He gives you a regretful smile, "I am not at liberty to explain. I'm truly sorry."

He clears his throat and resumes reading. "Upstairs there are to be no less than 6 bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms, to be outfitted accordingly. However there is to be only 1 single bed in 2 of the rooms."

Suspicious now, you ask "Really Mike. You're pulling my leg now. You cant be serious."

"I'm very serious." He hands you the pertinent section of the will so you can read it for yourself.

"Each bedroom is to be decorated in one of 6 colors: red, purple, blue, green, yellow, white."

"It doesn't mention here what kind of style he wants the house built in," you observe.

"He didn't care." Mike response, leaning back in his chair a little. "You have free reign. The total budget for the house is 250k."

"Nice." You say, dubiously. Such a strange list of requirements is more than a little...disconcerting.

"And of course there's your fee." Mike gives you a number that makes your jaw drop. The amount of money being offered would pretty much leave you debt free for the next five years, and pay for that trip to Al Simhara you've been wanting! Even if you are suspicious, its hard to say no to that kind of freedom.

"Well..."

Optional Challenge

Play clue with Mr. Boddy's guests!

Mr. Boddy is a vengeful ghost out to get the sims he feels had a hand in his death. So he invites them to the newly built mansion. Rules are simple: First determine order of play. Miss Scarlett always goes first. Then roll a dice to determine who goes next. Once order of play is established, roll for the room Miss Scarlett is sent to. All doors are to be locked between dice rolls. No wandering sims. You have 8 sim hours to kill the sim in that room with the rooms method of death. Example: Miss Peacock gets sent to the observatory. You have 8 hours to drown her in the pool. After the 8 hours, you can let her out of the pool but she must stay in the observatory until her next turn.

After the 8 hours of potential death are up, each sim can amuse themselves or fill whatever needs are available to fill in that room. They may not leave the room till their next turn though. You may have turns concurrently. Example: Miss Peacock has to drown, so you lock her in the pool. You can then roll for the next sim and send them to the room of their potential death. You may have multiple sims in the same room, attempting to die the same way. If you wish to drag out the game play, you can insert a bonus round and give 1 sim the chance to recover their needs to keep them going longer.

The winner and inheritor of the estate is the last surviving Sim. They just have to live with the ghost of the murderous Mr. Boddy for the rest of their lives.

LOT DESCRIPTION & DETAILS: Boddy Manor
Was it Mrs. plum in the library with the candlestick or possibly Col. Mustard in the lounge with the revolver? Or did Ms. Scarlet get eaten by the cow plant in the conservatory. Come explore the Boddy Mansion and play a game of clue.
I didn't want to make a dark, scary, gothic mansion so I went with a more contemporary McMansion style. I think it still has a sense of foreboding on the inside with the dark blues and reds I used.
I used the board game for the initial layout of the first floor rooms to keep the feeling and flow of the original game.
Instead of the empty hallways at the front of the house, I put in a small powder room and a cloak room.
The upstairs is completely made up by me There are the six bedrooms with baths for the game characters and one room for the body of Mr. Boddy.
