As you put the finishing touches to your pumpkin carving, Rose knocks on the door.

"Umm, your client is here." Wondering why she looks a little white you ask her to show them in.

Immedaitely you understand Rose's reticence when you see who she leads through the door.

"Good evening." You say, hopefully managing to keep your shock from registering on your face.

"Good evening!" Comes the hearty reply, in a slight Slavic accent.

"I understand that you have come to commission a new home."

"That is correct, I am new to Sunset Valley and there is nothing here that suits my, let's say, bespoke, requirements." Your client chuckles, never, ever, would you have believed that you would witness Count Dracula chuckle!

"Let's go over those requirements shall we?"

"Certainly, I don't want to live in a fusty old mansion, as the stereotypes would lead you to believe, other than that you have free range on the design. Now of course, I sleep for most of the day as sunlight can prove incredibly hazardous to my health, however, I do like to garden in the moonlight, so an area for a vegetable garden is a must. There needn't be much in the way of flower beds though, I find it almost depressing to think that I won't get to see the plants flower. As most of my time at home will be during the night time hours, I also need to ensure that the rooms are well lit.

With regards to the specifics, I would like to have at least 3 self contained bedroom suites, that means full en-suites for all the rooms, one for myself and two for my, well, let's call them, guests. If you can fit in any further bedrooms, please ensure that they are also self contained. I would like a relatively large and well appointed kitchen, I have been known to cook up a batch or two of soup for the local soup kitchen. Someone has to ensure that the less fortunate residents are well fed, you never know when your next meal will be. Talking of food, I require a formal dining area for entertaining, as well as a more informal area for my own personal meal times, this area must include a 3 tile table, I like to spread things out when I eat.

I need a large open plan area to entertain my other Supernatural Friends, it would of course be helpful if this could be decorated in the spirit of All Hallows Eve. I would like the theme to stop there though, I can't abide the thought of having to live full time in a spooky house. An indoor pool would be nice." He adds, almost as an afterthought.

"Books!! How could I forget my books, I will most definitely need a large, possibly two story library to store my wonderful collection of books.

"What sort of budget are we looking at here Sir?"

The Count looks thoughtful, almost peaceful as he ponders this question.

"Budget you say? Well, let's just say that I am sure whatever you spend, I will be more than able to cover."

Yes! You think to yourself, as you mull over the possibilities of an unlimited budget.

As the Count reaches over to shake your hand, you are very careful not to be drawn into his big black eyes, like giant pools of oil, you feel your knees becoming week as he holds your gaze.

The count coughs and you are bought back to your senses.

"It was a pleasure to meet you my dear." Again, that slight smile and chuckle.

He walks towards the door, allowing you to regain your composure.

"We'll be sure to have everything ready for you in time for All Hallows Eve."

"I don't doubt it." He says as he disappears into the night.

“Hmmmm, well this is certainly different”, you say to yourself as you arrive at your next clients home. You don't normally make house calls, but you had to make an exception to your own rules when the request came in. As you walk around the sleek exterior and try to locate the front door. Without warning a plumbot appears at your side “Mr Smith is expecting you.” The speech seems too real to have been made mechanically and you find yourself wondering what else you might find in Oasis Landing.

He waves his hand at what looks to be a regular stucco'd wall and a door way appears as if from nowhere. You are guided into a large reception area which is sparse but the furnishings are incredible, so sleek and modern.

“Mr Smith I presume.” You say to the gentleman sat at one of the couches that looks to be floating in thin air.

“That is correct.” He replies. “I want to thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to meet with me here.”

“It really was an offer that I couldn't refuse.”

“Can I offer you any type of refreshments? I have a good store of nectar in the cellar.”

“Thank you, but no, I would like a glass of water though.” As if by magic the bot appears at your side once more with a glass of chiller water.

“So I understand you have relatives in Sunset Valley.” You state as you sit down on another “floating” couch.

“In a round about way, you could say so, yes. That is why I have commissioned this project, I wish to have a base in Sunset Valley from which I can look into my family's history and the such like.”

“I can understand that. Now tell me about the sort of building that you would like me to design and build for you.”

“I want a small home, as you can see I am used to top quality furnishings, but I understand that these sorts of things aren't readily available in Sunset Valley, but I do want a very modern, minimalistic feel to the whole thing. That is one of the reasons I have asked you to design something on a 10x10 plot. I will only need one bedroom and bathroom, and somewhere to set up my computer, I would prefer this to area to be separate from my sleeping quarters. The usual kitchen area, with somewhere to eat and relax. And that about covers it.”

“And your budget for this project.” You ask.

“I think that you should be able to come up with something respectable for 23.500 Simoloeons, I didn't get to where I am today by wasting money.”

“I am sure that we can come up with something suitable in the time frame Mr Smith.”

“I'll have my plumbot see you to your transport.” And you feel that you have been summarily dismissed.

You close up your previous case file, happy in the knowledge that Mr Smith has everything he asked for in his brief.

Tapping the intercom you ask Rose if your next client has arrived, she says that they are just walking through the door.

You go out to meet them and see a young mom struggling to get a buggy up the stairs. Offering your help, you can't help but

notice her startling green eyes. As you both get the buggy back on terra firma, you offer her your hand.

"Mrs Johnson I presume."

"Please call me Kaye. It's lovely to finally meet the architect that we've heard so much about. I'm sorry but Kieran

couldn't make the appointment today, his mother is unwell and he has had to go and visit them.

"I hope that it is nothing serious. Let's go through to my office shall we?"

Rose interrupts "Can I get you a drink?"

"That would be lovely, do you have any green tea? I am still feeding little Kaiden here." She motions to the baby in the

buggy.

"Of course, I'll bring it in when it's ready."

Kaye sits on the couch by the window and unstraps the baby, unzipping his warm winter snuggly and places him over her

shoulder.

Rose enters and places the tea on the coffee table.

"Could you hold little man for me, while I drink this? I hate having hot liquids around him."

"Of course." You say, a little hesitantly, wondering if the baby would be safer with his Mom and the hot liquid.

Kaye gets up and hands over the wriggling Kaiden. Trying to get him into a comfortable position, you ask "So, I understand

that this little one is your first child?"

Kaye responds with an affirmative nod and a smile as she sips at the tea. "We are planning to have more, but we are happy

with it just being the three of us at the moment. We really need more space, we are in an apartment at present and my

gorgeous little man is in with us at night, it's lovely having him so close, but I find myself waking with every little

movement he makes. On the other hand I think Kieran could sleep through world war 3." She chuckles a little.

"So you are definitely looking for something with two bedrooms then?"

"Yes, in fact we have found the perfect house, it's just a shame that there's already someone living there. We do have a

plan of the place though, do you think you could build us a replica?" She hands over the plan:

Juggling the baby and the sheet of paper you are handed is more complicated than you thought it would be, but you manage. Little hands try and reach out and you find yourself in a battle of tug of war with a 1 year old.

Feeling a little more satisfied than you think is appropriate after having won the battle, you place the plan on the desk and give it some thought.

"I am sure that we can come up with something. Tell me a little bit more about yourself and your husband so that I can get a feel for your tastes."

"Well, before Kaiden, I worked in journalism, but I want to be a stay at home Mom, I don't see the point in having children if you are going to ship them off to nursery 5 days a week. Kieran is more ambitious than me, he is a scientist, he is working on a cure for the common cold at present, so he is at work quite a lot, I must admit it would be nice to see a little more of him..."

"What sort of budget are you looking at for this project?"

"My parents were recently killed in a boating accident, and as sole heir, I will soon have the funds to build my dream home. However, Kieran and I do have quite a bit in savings, my parents set up a trust fund that matured when I had my first baby. So I have $250k for this part of the project."

"This part of the project?" You ask.

"Yes, we will be looking to extend our little family in the future and as such, we will be back to ask you to complete some additions once my parents estate has been finalised."

"Well OK then! Any favourite colours or colours you don't want? What sort of style were you thinking of?"

"As long as the colour scheme is quite muted an the furnishings aren't too modern or too archaic, we are happy to leave all those details up to you."

Kaye stands up, takes the baby from you and straps him back into his buggy.

"It was lovely to meet you, and I am really looking forward to seeing what you come up with for our new home."

"Likewise, I hope that Kieran's mother is OK and that he can get back to you and that lovely little bundle soon."

"Me too."

As you go to shake her hand, she surprises you by pulling you into a hug.

"Well." You say as you gather your wits, "We should be finished within the fortnight."

"Wonderful, you take care now." You gesture to Rose to help Kaye down the stairs with the buggy.

"What a lovely lady." You think to yourself.

The Brief:
This is a multi-parted challenge, so keep your wits about you, Kaye, Kieran and Kaiden will be back.
You will be building on a 60x60 lot.
The budget is $250k
You must stick to the floor plan, this should fit on a 30x30 section anywhere on the lot, just keep in mind that in the future you will be asked to extend it (You only need to landscape in the 30x30 area).
All doors and windows must be placed as per the plan, the same goes for walls.
You will notice that there are stairs in the plan, you can, if you wish, add a basement area (points will not be deducted for those who choose not to.)
You can build on a foundation should you wish to.

The Optional Challenge: Create the family and show them enjoying their new home.

‘Its such a wonderful time of the year,’ you think to yourself as you tuck the Christmas card the Johnson’s sent you back into its envelope. According to the card they were all moved in and happily decorating for the holidays. Could anything be nicer than a new family in their dream home?

You kick back in your office chair, closing your eyes to take a few minutes to enjoy the peace and the moment. Outside your office windows, snow falls in beautiful fat flakes, piling up in perfectly fluffy piles. On the radio, carols play softly in the background. Dimly you can hear the musical jingle of bells on a rapidly approaching sleigh outside. Such a perfect moment.

Then a thought crosses your mind. ‘Wait…a sleigh?’ No one in the area owns a sleigh as far as you know. You open your eyes just in time to see it whisk by, brightly painted and drawn by several antlered animals. ‘Were those…reindeer?’ You shake your head. ‘Couldn't be. We’re too far south… right?’ The jingling bells stop before you make up your mind to get up and look.

A few minutes later, you hear Rose’s voice in her “greeting clients” tone. Her chirpy greeting is followed by a man’s deep voice. You quickly straighten up from your lounging position at your desk. The man lets out a laugh that can only be described as jolly. It’s the kind of laugh that makes it impossible not to smile.

Rose knocks on the door, then opens the door with a huge smile on her face. It’s the kind of smile that you have seen on a child’s face when they see the tree on Christmas morning, a smile filled with joy and wonder. In one hand she has a tree shaped cookie. “Your next clients are here!”

“Please send them in,” you ask, smiling at her. Between the smile, the cookie and the silly red Santa hat she’s wearing, its hard to resist smiling. Rose opens the door all the way and steps aside to usher in your clients.

The man who comes through the room is tall, with broad shoulders and thickly muscled arms. His silver white beard easily reaches mid-chest and looks soft as the snow outside. You judge him to be about 50ish. Next to him, standing as high as his shoulders is obviously his wife. Her hair is as white as his beard and she carries a basket over one arm. Her plump face, like her husbands, bears a happy smile. Both wear thick coats with fur edgings and matching fur hats.

“My my, what a lovely office.” chirps the wife. “Thank you for seeing us without an appointment.”

“Not at all. Please have a seat,” You say, gesturing them to the chairs in front of your desk.

“Thank you dear.” She opens the basket and pulls out a plate of cookies. “These are for you.”

“Why thank you!” You cant help but admire them. They are gorgeously decorated, like the cookies you see in magazines. As you select one, she pulls out three mugs and bottle of milk. Biting into it, you almost purr with bliss. It has that just out of the oven warmth.

In his booming voice, her husband says, “We chose you because you’ve been good this year. I’ve made a list of your projects, all beautifully done.”

“A list?” The idea is disconcerting to you.

His wife chuckles merrily, “Oh yes, he loves his lists. Always checks them twice too. Have some milk dear.” Obediently you sip at the milk, startled at the icy coldness of it. You study your mug, certain that it came out of the same basket as the oven warm cookies. When you look at the Mrs, her bright blue eyes simply twinkle merrily.

He smiles, “Have you made a Christmas list young lady?”

“Now dear,” chides his wife, handing him a cookie. “We’re not here on work.”

“Right, right.” He laughs and bites into the cookie.

She smiles at you, “Sorry about that. Christmas is our business you might say. And it’s so busy this time of year. We decided to grab a few quiet moments and come talk to you.”

“Of course. What can I do for you?”

“We’ve decided that we would like a vacation home.” he says happily, “She’s russian and I’m dutch-german, so we’d like the home to reflect that. Also, my wife is an amazing cook.” He slaps his stomach, as broad as his shoulders, merrily. “As you can see. So she needs a gourmet level kitchen with plenty of room to cook in. I need a stable, for 8.”

“9 dear.” His wife interjects.

“Right. 9. Sorry. But no stalls. They like to mingle. And a fireplace. Me and the Missus enjoy snuggling before a fire at the end of a long day. I’ll need a study so I can get out from under her feet and check my lists.”

“And since Christmas is both our business and our passion,” she says, “We’d like the decorating in traditional Christmas colors. Other than that, we’d like it to have all the things a normal home has. We’ll leave the rest of it up to you. What do you think dear?”

“I think we can easily accommodate those requests, ma’am. Would 2 weeks be soon enough?”

“Oh my yes. Thank you dear.” She stands up, tucking the mugs back into her basket. “Now then, we’ll be off and let you get back to work. Ready dear?”

He stands up too, holding out a large hand, “Wonderful to meet you. Look forward to seeing what you do.”

Then he escorts his wife out. A few minutes later, the jingle of bells starts up and fades away into the distance. You sit for a few moments, nibbling a cookie. Then you realize something. “Rose?” you call out.

She pokes her head in, “Yes?”

“Did you get their names?”

“Why… no actually. I didn’t.” She blushes, “He just seemed so familiar I completely forgot…”

“Me too… makes me think of someone I knew when I was a kid…”

You find yourself whistling the tune of Jingle Bells as you close up you last file. There is another basket of freshly baked goods on your desk, and you hesitate for a moment before letting yourself select a chocolate chip muffin. As you take your first bite, the intercom rings. “Yes Rose?” You mumble, embarrassed at having been caught in the act.

You hear Rose chuckling as she says “Mrs Johnson is on line one for you.”

As you finish your mouthful you winder why she could be calling, you hope that there is nothing amiss with their new home.

A little more professionally you ask Rose to please put her through.

“Mrs Johnson, what can I do for you?”

“Thank goodness you are still working, I was worried that you might have shut up shop for the holidays.”

“No chance of that, I have clients booked up right through the season.”

“Oh.” She sounds deflated.

“I was hoping...”

You catch the thread of desperation in her voice.

Deciding to take the plunge and talk to her as the friend that she was fast becoming. “What's up Kaye?”

“Well, when I came to you regarding phase one of the project, I think I mentioned that Kieran's mother was unwell?”

“You did. Oh, has she taken a turn for the worse?”

“Not as such, it's just that she fell and broke her hip, she has been in hospital and has had it replaced, but Kathleen and Kelvin were living on the 4th floor of a retirement complex, and the lifts don't always work. They are very proud people, I could afford to pay for them to have a little chalet in a lovely residential village, but they won't accept anything from me.”

“I see.” You say, sensing the direction that this conversation was heading.

“Kieran floated the idea of them coming to live with us and it didn't bomb like we thought it would. In fact Kathleen looked positively overjoyed at the thought of being so close to us, now we have Kaiden.”

“And you need me to come and have a look at how we could fit a self contained annex on the grounds of your lot...” You say, with a smile on your face.

“Yes, that's precisely what we are after. Do you think you could squeeze us in?”

“Let me just check my diary.” You pop her on hold while you buzz through to Rose. “Rose, is there any way that I can...”

Rose interrupts. “I've already called your next scheduled clients and informed them that due to the holidays, you are going to have to postpone them by a couple of weeks. They were fine.”

“But... how...”

“It's my job to know.” She says as she hangs up on you. You make a mental note to increase her festive bonus and wonder, not for the first time, what you would do with out her.

You connect back to Kaye's call and hear her cooing to Kaiden, such a lovely sound.

“Kaye, yes, Rose informs me that I do indeed have a gap in my schedule and it would be a privilege to build Kieran's parents new home.”

“Thank you!!” You hear the relief in her voice.

“But there is one other thing. We think we might need an extension to the main house as well...” Sensing a little nervousness in her voice you carefully ask.

“Really?”

“Yes, it is very early, but we're pregnant again! I'm just coming up to my second trimester and we went for our scan yesterday, looks like it's twins!!”

“Wow!! Congratulations.” You say with feeling.

“I can see why you would need a little extra space. Let's go through the details shall we.....”

The Brief:

• Using your existing 60x60 lot (or download this shell) you need to add on another two bedrooms to the main dwelling. One is a double nursery complete with attached bathroom, the other a guest room with attached bathroom. The interior walls you have built (from the plan) need to stay the same, but you can expand the exterior.
Kaye and Kieran do not know what gender their babies are, so the decor needs to be gender neutral.
• You also need to provide a wheelchair friendly granny annex, so this needs to be another fully functioning residence, with 2 bedrooms (one of which must have an attached bathroom), a separate bathroom, kitchen, dining space and living area.
Kathleen and Kelvin are elderly, so the décor should match accordingly.
• Your budget for this portion of the challenge is $250,000 (so the entire build, at the end of this section should be no more than $500k)

The deadline for this challenge will be 1/1/2014, otherwise it would end on Christmas Day :O

You take a deep breath, looking around your new office with satisfaction and pride. True, it didn't have the comfort of an old shoe, like your last office did. But that comfort, that perfect fit would come. And your new office is, to put it mildly, gorgeous. After one last admiring look around, you glance at the clock and note that your next client should be there soon.

No sooner has that thought left your head than Rose pokes her head through your door. “Your next client is here. She’s asked if she could talk to you outside.”

“Outside?” You steal a glance through your office window and sigh. The sun is shining brightly, making it look much warmer than the winter temperature truly was. “I’d better get my coat…”

The sun pierces your eyes, making you wish for your glasses until they adjust. Its silent and peaceful. You scan the little sitting area you keep for outside consultations. For a few minutes, as you start to shiver, you wonder if maybe the client changed their mind. Till a soft female voice says “Here.” You jump, certain you had just looked at that spot.

Sitting on a low stone border edging the garden, is a young woman that reminds you of a cross between a wood elf from fantasy stories and the red haired sister from that movie Practical Magic. She has long red hair that falls over her winter garb. Perched on one arm, held close to her body, is a huge raven. Her other hand gently strokes the birds feathers. her eyes, dark as the bird, follow your every move as you sit down on one of the benches. ‘She looks like she’s part of the bushes…’ you observe, a bit disconcerted.

“So…What can I do for you miss?”

“My name is Xantha Disthenos.” She ruffles the birds chest feathers, light glinting off of the thin chain around its neck, from which a tear shaped crystal dangles. “This is Tear.”

“Nice to meet you both.”

“We are looking for a house.” She says, apparently impervious to the cold. “We've chosen a lot up near Stoney Falls.”

“Okay. Why don't you tell me a little about yourself?”

“I…I don't like people around. Tear likes other birds, but I don't like people. I’m an artist. I draw, paint a little. The money comes from an inheritance.” She pauses as the bird pecks at her zipper. “I don't want much. Just a little house, with a view of the falls. 1 bedrooms, 1 bath. Kitchen. Living room. Place for me to draw with lots of light. Something, simple. And of course a big comfy perch for Tear. I have an SUV, but I don't want a driveway all the way across the lot. A small garden, herb and vegetable. But not a big one.”

“Those are things we can all handle,” You say, seeking to reassure her.

“Also, I want you to reforest the lot.”

“… I’m sorry?” This was a new request.

“There was a small forest up there till it was clear cut. I want you to use most of the money to forest the lot. Whatever is not used up by the garden and the house. But make it natural looking, not in rows like an orchard. Can you do that?”

“I think so…”

“Good.” She stands up in a graceful motion. The raven she transfers to her shoulder. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome Miss Disthenos. We’ll have it done for you in just a couple weeks.”

“That will work.” The raven suddenly launches itself into the sky. When you look back at her human perch, you find that Xantha has also gone.

For my version of Xantha, I was thinking along the lines of a nature loving recluse. I gave her the traits of eco-friendly and loves outdoors. She has a sketchbook and camera in her inventory, along with her SUV. I gave her a few skills so she is ready to start her life with the birds. I felt she would love to keep things natural. I dressed her in her favorite color, green and kept it kind of woodsie.

‘How lovely.’ You think, stepping back from hanging the picture Xantha sent you. It was such a wonderful thank you for building her the perfect home. “It looks great there doesn't it Rose?” You ask.

Rose nods happily, “Such a talented young lady. She will do well I think.”

“And we will be able to say ‘We knew here when…’”

Rose laughs as the front door opens. In walks a tall, elegantly dressed young man. He neatly wipes his feet and removes his coat before turning to you. A polite smile crosses his face and he bows in greeting, “Good afternoon. My name is Victor VanEllis. I was wondering if the architect is available for a consultation? Or will I need to make an appointment?” His warm voice suggests a well educated young man. Between his boarding school accent and the expensive, tailored suit, you begin to sense a lucrative contract in the offing.

You step forward with a smile, “I’m the architect.” You offer your hand, introducing yourself. “Why don't we talk in my office?”

After settling in, Victor smiles. “It's so good of you to see me on such short notice. I’m in a bit of a jam and I’m hoping you can help me.”

“I’ll certainly try,” you reply, smiling as Rose brings in the tea tray. “What seems to be the trouble?”

“Its a bit of a story actually,” He pauses as Rose serves him a cup of tea. “Why thank you dear lady.” He takes a sip, then praises her tea. Rose blushes happily and leaves the room. “So nice to have a good cup of tea. Now then..

“When I was a child, my family lived near another with whom we were friendly. They are of a noble bloodline, while my family is… how do they say it? Nouveau riche? What I mean is, my grandfather built the family fortune and my father has maintained it. But I intend to build it up even further.” He pauses for another sip of tea.

“Very ambitious” you say, leaning back in your chair to listen.

“Ambition is a family trait, you might say.” He smiles, “The family I mentioned has a daughter, named Venus. She is as beautiful as her namesake, in mind, body and soul.” He smiles, joy at the thought of her lighting his face. He places his hand upon his chest, “I have loved her from childhood. The fates have blessed me in the fact that she has reciprocated.

“Over the years, it has not dwindled, despite being separated by boarding schools and growing… disagreements between our families. We have been able to keep in contact via letters, emails and even video chats over the internet. Now, we wish to marry.

“However her family has announced that, despite our family’s wealth and prosperity, we are not good enough for my Venus.” A flush fills his face, forcing him to take several calming breaths.

Despite feeling pity for the young man and his love, you are a bit confused as to what he could want. Surely not to act as mediator or go between…? “And how can I help?”

“Venus’s family have promised her to another of noble blood, but she does not wish to acquiesce to this. We have made plans to elope here. My family retainer, our butler Jarvis, is going to bring her here in 3 weeks time. I have come ahead to secure lodgings. As I want her to be comfortable, I've come to you to prepare suitable lodgings for my Venus. I’m told that you are both quick and capable, delivering magnificent results.”

“Thank you.”

“My family is entirely supportive of our plan, for they have hoped for a union between Venus and myself for years. They have advanced me a some money. Between that and the bonds I have cashed in, I want to build a house suitable for my love, so that she might live in the manner to which she is accustomed.”

Letting out a silent prayer of thanks that you wont have to help smuggle her out or anything like that, you smile. “A house we can definitely help you with. What kind of budget did you have in mind?”

“I have $256,595 for this. I would like the house to be on a large lot and finished with high end details and modern updates. No less than 3 rooms, as we intend to grow our family. I will require an office with which to work out of. Venus and I are simply mad about Victorians. We want one in a traditional style, with traditional interiors and layout. Of course, full landscaping to compliment out beautiful home. “

“This is something that is very doable in 3 weeks.”

“I've heard so many good things about your company, that I have no doubts. Thank you.” He stands and offers his hand.

“My pleasure,” you reply, shaking his in return. “Rose will show you out.”

Victor Robert Van Ellis is an up-and-coming gene therapist whose ambitious nature and hopelessly romantic heart are causing him to fetch his bride from the clutches of her foreboding family. This Capricorn is hot-headed enough not to care, knowing full well that Venus loves him. He is a neat perfectionist who is extremely handy around the home. He has a green thumb is a natural when it comes to cooking.

Build-n-Share Challenge #236-237 • David's Chambers

You flump at your desk, leaning back with a quiet groan. Completing the task of the VanEllis Estate was exhausting. Still, it was done now, and the VanEllis’s had registered their approval. You smile at the pictures you just finished adding to your portfolio. The estate was magnificent and worth every minute of the effort put into it. Still, you cant help but hope that the next build would be smaller.

Swivelling in your chair you note that the sun is bright outside and the day unseasonably warm for a February morning. Somewhere in the mid 60′s it made a great break from the snow of winter. Inspired you bounce to your feet and grab your lunch from the fridge.

“Rose? I’m going to take my lunch outside okay?” You call to your assistant.

Rose smiles, “I was thinking about doing the same thing. Don't forget you have an appointment soon.”

Despite the reminder, the warm sunshine and spring like day combine to wipe all sense of time and urgency from your mind, something that results in quite a blush when you see Rose leading your appointment towards you. Quickly you dust off your hands and wipe your mouth before standing up to greet him.

“Lt. David Chambers,” says the young man who is your newest client. Over his shoulder Rose gives you a reproachful I-warned-you look.

You try your best to ignore the look as you smile. “Lieutenant. Please make yourself comfortable. I hope you don't mind our consult being outside.”

He smiles back, the expression lighting up the dark eyes in his boy next door face. “No problem. Its beautiful out.”

“My thoughts exactly,” you say, before thanking Rose for handing you a sketch pad. As you get settled in with your pad and pencil for notes, you study the young man. He is well built, but not overly muscled, with a crispness that backs up his claim to a Lieutenant's rank. Dark hair is neatly trimmed and combed, but perhaps a little longer than what you guess regulation length to be. “You’re in the military?”

“Formerly. I was just recently released due to cut backs. I work in computers now. Graphics, game engine design, etc.”

“I see. Sounds interesting. And now you’ve decided to build a house?”

He nods, ”I have. I’m not looking for something big. 2 story house, fairly traditional looking. 2 bedrooms. Office for when I work from home. Open concept floorplan and…” His train of thought seems to come to a pause as his gaze shifts over your shoulder. Briefly David’s eyes return to your face, before drifting again. “Who’s that?”

You turn and look, then smile. Settling into a quiet spot, sketch pad in her lap and bird perched above her, is Xantha. “Thats Xantha Disthenos. She’s a local artist.”

Quietly, to himself, David murmurs “She is beautiful…” Then blinks, a bit sheepishly, “What kind of art does she do?”

“A variety of styles. When we’re done here I can introduce you if you’d like.”

“Um, yeah. That would be ah…Thank you.”

You cant help but smile, “What kind of interior design do you like?”

“Nothing too modern. A little more traditional.” He seems to be having trouble keeping his mind on the conversation. “Oh! And a hot tub out back, privacy fencing…kind of an asian zen relaxing kind of back yard but still very natural…”

“All those things are doable. What budget are we working with?”

“I have a bank loan for $60,000.”

“Okay. Will two weeks be soon enough?”

“Yeah, thats fine.” He stands up, eyes focused on Xantha. Swallowing a snicker, you take him over to introduce him to the artist.

At your desk you stretch and wince. David’s house was a nice little build after the VanEllis’s mansion. Still, between the two you have enough stress built up in your shoulders to challenge diamonds for hardness. Ah well, a nice long bath or super hot shower would help that. Still, a nice massage wouldn't hurt…

Even as you reach for the phone to book a massage at the local spa, Rose calls back that your next appointment is there. With a sigh, you straighten and put on a social smile. A few moments later, in walks Venus VanEllis. Your social smile turns into a genuine one. “Mrs. VanEllis! Congratulations on your marriage.”

Venus smiles, holding out her hand to flaunt both her gorgeous diamond engagement ring and its matching band. Obligingly you ooh and ah over it. “Thank you! I never believed I could be so happy!” She sits down across from your desk, smoothing the skirt of her very classy business suit. “I have my loving husband, wonderful in laws and that truly gorgeous house you made for us. It is almost impossible to believe I could be any happier.”

“I can understand that. Would you like some tea or coffee?”

She smiles brightly, “I would love some coffee.” Then laughs, “My darling Victor raved about your assistant’s tea, but honestly I don't know how he can drink the stuff.”

You laugh with her, reaching for the intercom.

”Fortunately Rose makes wonderful coffee too. How do you take it?”

“Cream and 2 sugars please.”

You make small talk with her while you wait for the coffee, getting details on the wedding and her honeymoon. Once coffee has been served, you ask, “So what brings you to me today Venus?”

“Well, I was hoping that you would be able to help me with something. My sweetest honey Victor has worked so hard to provide us with a good life. He’s set things up so if I want to I could just stay home and pursue hobbies if I want. But I would like to do something more…productive.”

“What did you have in mind?”

“I want to open a spa.”

“A spa?”

“Yes. Thanks to my family’s wealth and my mother’s love of travel, I have been able to visit some of the most exquisite spas throughout the world. I know there is a spa here,” She smiles a bit sheepishly, “But honestly, not the quality I’m accustomed to. So I want to open a high end spa here. And since you made us such a beautiful home, I’d like you to build it for me.”

“Sounds intriguing.” You pull out a pen, “What do you want it to look like?”

“I’ll leave the style to you, as long as there is an emphasis on architecture. I want some-place clean, soothing and very Zen. Obviously I’d like the most up to date and modern appliances. I’ll need rooms for treatments, saunas, massages, etc. I want to offer the most luxurious and amazing experience. Oh! And a juice bar slash café! Need to have somewhere to rest and relax after a yoga treatment.”

“Okay. And your budget?”

“About $100,000. Think you can work with that?”

“Not a problem.”

“Wonderful!” She finishes her coffee. “When do you think you could have this done?”

“2 weeks?”

“You are brilliant!” Venus shakes her hand. “I cant wait to see what you come up with. I'm so excited!”

Filled with her infectious excitement, you grin and escort her out before hurrying back to get started.
