Rebecca Keller (New Arrival on the Way) When Rebecca figured out she was pregnant, a sudden rush of misery washed over her. It wasn't the thought having a child that bothered her, but the fact she w...
Kris and Rebecca had grown very comfortable with their life together, and with little Hanna's progress. Rebecca was still not writing but enjoyed long days painting and playing with Hanna. Kris was finally finishing up his 20th novel with 8 hits and 9 best sellers under his belt. By the end of Fall, he and Rebecca were both bringing in around 60k a week each in royalties.
The daily grind was often interrupted by planned outings into town. They had both agreed that when Hanna was old enough to get past the travel restrictions, that they would probably visit China first. Rebecca already had the Thyme House there, and Kris had not spent much time in China. Preparing for the trip well ahead of departure, Kris had been practicing Sim-Fu with Rebecca who was a Grand Master. As the season began to wind down, Kris finally achieved his coveted black gi indicating his final skill level.
Having the skills, wasn't enough if Kris planned on challenging others in tournaments when they visited China. He and Rebecca started practicing even more around the house during the day on occasions. Rebecca was surprised at Kris' quick learning and there were days when Kris would win the majority of the matches.
The couple also made it out on the town or to parties some evenings, and they always had Hanna in tow. Hanna was a pleasant toddler, got along well with adults, and was able to entertain herself playing at times. Kris and Rebecca always made sure she was safe and taken care of, but that wasn't much of a task with Hanna.
Hanna also enjoyed meeting new people, as well as watching her parents interact with others. Rebecca thought it was important to let Hanna see how things worked in the adult world, how others acted and learn how to start picking up on social cues.
One evening at a party, they ran into Ella Carlise who had come back to Hidden Springs to pick up her son from her ex-husband Chris Harper. Rebecca avoided a conversation with Ella due to complications with her sister and her own family in Bridgeport where Ella was now living. She really just didn't want to put Ella in the middle of her mess or make Ella uncomfortable.
Kris on the other hand made sure to speak with Ella, and with Hanna on his hip. He was concerned about the ongoing problems with Rebecca's family and didn't mind asking Ella a few questions.
Ella was blunt when answering, "Rebecca and her father are equally stubborn, and they said some things to each other before Hanna was born that were more than unpleasant. It's not really about you or Hanna, it's more about the two them, and I am sorry I don't know what to tell you and cannot figure out what it will take to fix it."
Meanwhile, the couple's group of friends in Hidden Springs just kept growing. Their life there was pleasant and they got along well with almost everyone they met.
That evening after the party and less than a week away from the start of winter, Rebecca was dancing while Kris was getting Hanna ready for bed after arriving back home. She had gotten rusty in her dancing skills and almost twisted an ankle on the way to the floor. She brushed it off while remembering the late nights in Bridgeport long before Kris and Hanna were in the picture, then smiled thinking about how she really didn't miss the good old days of clubbing until the wee hours of the morning.
There was still one more thing Kris had to take care of that evening after putting Hanna to bed, and it had been a long year coming. He finally asked Rebecca to marry him, although he was certain what her answer would be. Kris just smiled, "I got tired of waiting for you to ask me boss lady, so let's get married."
Rebecca didn't have a problem with the idea at all, "If you're sure, then I am ready."
