Rebecca Keller (New Arrival on the Way) When Rebecca figured out she was pregnant, a sudden rush of misery washed over her. It wasn't the thought having a child that bothered her, but the fact she w...
Finally old enough to get past the travel restrictions, Hanna and her parents headed off to China to celebrate her birthday among other things. Rebecca already had a Level 3 Visa, and had already bought, remolded and furnished the Thyme House there. When showing the rest of the family around, they were excited with the new surroundings.
Kris and Rebecca had also planned on getting married during this visit to China and had a private wedding at the house shortly after arriving. There was no longer a Rebecca or Hanna Keller, as they all carried the name Hammond now.
The first day was mainly settling in and getting used to the surroundings. Hanna enjoyed some sushi for the first time, at least some that hadn't been made into mush in the food processor.
Early the next morning, Kris headed off to the Base Camp to check the board and found a few jobs around town he could complete to start earning his Visa status. Hanna and Rebecca messed around the house for a bit just being lazy and enjoying the scenery. They all met near the market around noon, when Hanna approached a question.
It was the first time she had really asked for something, "I really like the Thyme House, and it reminds me of a treehouse sitting on top of the hill and everything. Is there any way I can get a treehouse?"
Kris replied, "I don't know about here Hanna. There's not a lot of open flat ground on the property at the Thyme House, and there may be code restrictions we don't know about. We may look into getting you a treehouse when we get back home."
Rebecca waited for Kris to finish and then added, "You know, your dad and I have some money, and not all children get to go to China for their birthday, but if we get you a treehouse then it will be our treehouse. That's perfectly okay because we don't mind sharing, and sharing is a good thing, but what if you could buy your own treehouse? It would be your treehouse, and we would have to ask to share."
Hanna then asked, "Well how am I going to buy a treehouse, because I don't have any money?"
Rebecca answered, "You know sweetie, you haven't met your grandparents, my mom and dad, but they have a lot of money too. They always bought your aunt Marcy and me just about anything we wanted. We were kind of spoiled, and it took me a long time to get over that.
Then I figured out that there is a lot of money everywhere, and you just have to put forth a little effort to get it. Your dad has been working around town since early this morning, finding things that people need and getting paid. Does that sound like something you might want to do."
Hanna looked a little suspicious, and was thinking, "Well, I have heard y'all talking about tomb raiding and making some money like that. Is that what you are talking about?"
Kris piped in, "You might be a bit young for tomb raiding Hanna, but that's not the only option."
Rebecca looked at Kris then back at Hanna before speaking again, "I don't know Kris, she may need some gear, but I don't mind taking her with me. I'll tell you what Hanna, you and I will walk the countryside today and I will show things we can collect to make some money. When we get back this evening, and after dinner, I'll see if we cannot find you some gear. If that works out, you and I can at least visit a tomb tomorrow."
Hanna quickly agreed before Kris could interrupt and object. 😆
The ladies spent the rest of the day across the countryside with Hanna collecting flowers, gems, bugs, and metals, while Rebecca handled the dig sites. By the time they sold everything, made it home that evening, and Kris had made dinner the two had collected 7165 simoleons worth of goods ... And that was more than enough to buy a treehouse.
By bedtime, Hanna was completely worn out from the busy day, but dreaming about the next day to come, and hoping she and her mother could visit a tomb.
Kris went back to work around town doing favors for the locals but not catching a tomb job. Rebecca managed the garden early, then the girls got dressed and headed to the Forbidden City.
Rebecca laid down the law when she and Hanna entered her first tomb, 'You are going to have to pay attention to me because tombs can be dangerous. Your dad is not thrilled about this, so don't make me look like a fool for including you.
When I say stop, you stop, and when I say go, you go ... No if's and's or but's, do you understand me? I have been through many tombs, and this one is not that bad, but you could still get hurt. If you cannot follow direction, we will just pack up and go.
Feel free to ask questions, but don't mess with anything you don't understand. No leaning on walls, because some of them have secret doors. If you are good, and do as I ask, then you can come with me in the future ... If not, it will be a long time before I ask you again."
Hanna paid attention to the instructions and knew her mother was being serious. She was excited, but a bit nervous about messing up. They encountered a lot of things she had not expected, like lots of spiders, icky bugs and even some skeletons. Hanna hung in there though and the two had an awesome tomb run.
Rebecca opened all the chests but allowed Hanna to look around and collect some things that were loose and identifiable. Hanna even found a precious ancient vase that was well worth the trip by itself. They worked well as a team, and Rebecca wished that Kris had come along, to see how well things actually went.
After finishing the tomb, the two returned to the Forbidden City to meet the rest of the merchants and talk to some locals. Hanna and her mother proved to be a lot alike in many ways, and they both enjoyed discussing their adventures around the marketplace.
