No, no, plum no. Charging for your downloads is pretty illegal, and it's a scummy thing to do. Creators can create a Patreon or a PayPal for donations just fine, but restricting access to their downloads is not okay.
What I DO think is acceptable is the model that creators like AroundTheSims and Understretch-Imaginations have, where you get a bunch of extra items if you donate to them. AroundTheSims keeps them restricted as "premium items", Understretch simply puts them up on Patreon a month before he puts them up on his site.

Thanks for listing those sites, I'll take a lookie.=)

I try not to download from TSR.Always heard that site is full of viruses through their ads and a lot of items are corrupted. So I try to avoid them.

I had to go for thread necromancy here, but The Sims Resource is the BESTEST, most perfect source for any TS custom content! Amazing quality, great pictures and description, suggested download... It's SO good!
I have never encountered a single "virus" there (and I've been faithfully downloading since The Sims 2's launch), furthermore I can't even imagine how someone would manage to mess that up, it's a pretty simple process, really.
On the other hand, nearly every Simblr and Blog download link go through Adfly, and THAT is a nightmare to deal with.
I have donated to SIMcredible and ATS. Newsea has my utmost respect and admiration (her and Peggy's hairs were always my favorite back in the day and I consider them the Founding Mothers of every amazing TS hairstylists since), but I never donated.
(I'm kinda feeling bad about it now... I might donate, just for the sake of it. ;-)
  • @EA_Mage Can you lock this please, this is an old thread from 2017, I no longer need answers =) Thanks.

@MsRed Thanks for the input.=) I actually asked this back in 2017, already found solutions. Thanks though.
  • @MsRed It's more like the Ads on the site can give viruses (even if you don't click on them). I've had an ad blocker for so long, I don't know if this is still an issue. I feel safe using the site with one on my browser. There's also been some corrupted content in the past that came from TSR and spread to the exchange (example: doll & bathroom counter) but any creator can make a mistake... not just TSR creators.

Those are the reasons why I think it has a bad reputation.

edit: I know bumping an old thread, I just wanted to reply to MsRed. sorry OP
  • Guys can we please not bump my old threads. This was asked almost a year ago, I don't need help anymore with this question lol.
