Borked Portrait Panel Pic

I noticed that Mikezumi's portrait didn't quite look right when I was playing yesterday.

Here's what it should look like

This is how it looked on and off during the last two sim days

Has anyone else had this happen or know what it could mean?

I am trying a new save in Roaring Heights and I remember something like this happening in Riverview years ago (before I used mods and CC).

  • @coco and @CravenLestat My first thought when I saw her was that she had a puddingish appearance (but not quite because my pudding radar would have made me rage quit) ;)
Thanks for the tip @CravenLestat but I can assure you my caches are cleared after every play session which never lasts for more than one sim day. Even if the portrait panel wasn't recognizing my skin that wouldn't explain the slider changes. My SS was made before I used CC so I know her slider positions are nowhere near zero.

@SemaviLady That may well be the case for some players but I don't have Seasons or moon phases. It's also not mood related because my sims are never anything other than Elated. They are NEVER unhappy. Unrealistic I know but it's my game ;) I do know what you are talking about, though, because I have switched households and seen some very sad looking portraits before I made them happy again. This change of appearance does not look like a mood change as the facial features have actually changed.

@Springfairy556 I see my sim in her everyday outfit when she's wearing sleepwear but I am pretty sure when she is wearing her formal outfit her portrait always reflects that. I should take note of that in future.

@igazor You are a champ! I changed her outfit temporarily and when I went back to her original one the thumbnail immediately went back to normal.
  • Glad you got it fixed. I didn't see much difference, but, the thumbnails are tiny and my eyesight is horrible.
  • Thanks @bekkasan It didn't affect game play but it was irking me to see Mikezumi looking wrong :#
  • I couldn't see the difference at first either, until @Mikezumi mentioned what we should be looking for. I don't recall having this happen before, but I've had an issue with portraits every time I've adopted a stray cat or horse. After a couple of sim days, all household portraits will become the cat or the horse, and only the top one ever stays highlighted.

I just chalk stuff like that up to game weirdness. And in my case, trash my save... lol :D
  • @Pary I was not ready to trash my save because Mikezumi looked a little off ;)
There are lots of little oddities that we passionate TS3ers put up with :D
  • Well, I didn't notice the change first time as well :joy: I've had a similar problem with a change in sims' appearance before - not just the portrait panel but their actual look as well.

The change itself was kind of random but it's usually mild (and harmless to normal gameplay). There was a time when I noticed that a male sim of mine (who I've made using custom facial sliders) had a longer, sharper chin with his cheek bones moving a little bit upwards than the time I created him. I didn't figure out another way to fix it other than editing it directly in CAS though. @Mikezumi do you have any custom CAS facial sliders installed?
  • At first, I couldn't see anything either. I kept going back and forth, rubbing my eyes and squinting at the pics, and got nowhere. I read Mikezumi's description of the issue, and I could just barely make out a couple of changes. Then I realized that I was supposed to be looking at the portraits, not the thumbnails.

By the way, @Mikezumi, while you're in windowed mode, you can also get a pic with Windows key-shift-S, and then drag your cursor over the area you want to capture. (at least in Windows 10) The screenshot winds up on the clipboard for you to paste into whatever app you want.

I still disagree. But really the images are hard to compare so I took the liberty to make a gify to help illustrate what is going on. Note the broad smile and the smiling happy eyes.

From the wishes (showing two young kids) in the snippet that you showed, it makes sense that images would change slightly to reflect a mood. You mentioned the images alternated over two sim days. Kids do amusing things that makes sims smile. So I think these do reflect a mood, although I don't actually know if the Mikezumi was near the kids or what caused the broad smile and happy eyes.
I'm glad you're happy with the portrait again. I like the broad smile and happy eyes. I think what possibly happened. Mikezumi possibly looks better without the broad smile, but I choose to differ. Not sure if the portrait was taken in low light, so maybe that is a source of distortion?

Sorry for the confusion. My fault. I only mentioned the general location of the featured portrait, to indicate the area for other lost folk like me, could find the possible bork to which you referred... I failed to reference your image when I did that, good grief. (I was half asleep and waiting for my routine documents/games backup to finish before logging off for the night.)

I do know that the game doesn't always use the same portrait for mood. It's dynamic. Anyway, so that's where I'm coming from.

Thanks for sharing. It's another area to appreciate or ponder in the game!
  • @ChocoCub I've never had a sim's actually looks change before! I would be mortified! :o
I do have custom sliders installed but Mikezumi doesn't have any because she was made prior to my use of CC and mods. I don't think this is a CC issue, though, because I remember it happening years ago before I used any.

@puzzlezaddict Thanks for pic tip! I don't play in windowed mode and I rarely have need to take screen captures but will be sure to note this for future reference :)

@SemaviLady Thank you for making the gif :) It was a great help to me. I can now definitely see that Mikezumi's face changed completely. There is not a single feature left of her right down to her prominent ears. All that is left of Mikezumi are the trimmings (hair, brows, lipstick).
I have been playing TS3 since it came out and for more hours than many people have to spare and know that facial features do shift a little with smiles and other expressions but this is something completely different. The image did alternate over two sim days but not just short bursts to reflect moods. It would last for many sim hours each time.
  • @Mikezumi - you're welcome ref the animated gif. I thought possible mini-moodlets may have brought on the broader smile for brief periods of time. But you know your game and character better than I do. Nice discussion!
