Can't Install Sims in .sims3pack Files - Please Help Me!

Hi There!

So basically this is my problem: I downloaded a sim from the exchange into the "My Documents" folder, then moved the .sims3pack into the "Downloads" folder in my "The Sims 3" (or whatever it's called!) folder. The sim then showed up in my launcher, and at the end of the installation, it said "Success!". So, I open up my game to find no sim!! Oh dear. I checked everywhere, in every category, and it wasn't there. I downloaded some other sims to check if it was just that one, but no, they didn't install either!

I'm not quite sure what to do and I'm very frustrated!! I'd be so grateful if anyone could help me out!!

Thanks,

- Cyboid

  • did the sim have cc on it? I think sometimes sims don't install because you need some sort of program or mesh from the website the cc was created from but based on your avatar you probably already know that. Also sometimes certain sims require some expansion packs but it should tell you the expansions needed on the exchange page. There is a chance that it could have not installed correctly or not at all so check the tab on the launcher that says installed content and try to find the item. If it is there then you could uninstall and then install it again.

quick question (and this is probably unrelated)why can't you download the content directly into the launcher?

    hope I helped! :)

Yes, the sim had CC in it, and I found and downloaded all the CC, but most of it was included in the sims3pack (I checked with custard). I also have all the eps and sps, so thats not a problem. When it says "Success!" once I try to install, it does appear in the installed content tab, but theres no .sim file in the "SavedSims" folder, so it hasn't installed! Arghhh this is so frustrating! Thanks for your help though! :D

EDIT: Oh, I tried downloading straight into the launcher, but it takes so much longer and it doesn't work either!!
  • Hi,

You can first try out the following:

First, quit the game and the launcher. Now go into Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 and look for a folder called "DCCache". Delete everything inside of that folder, but do not delete the folder itself. Run the launcher again and then go to the Downloads tab. Notice that items on the list will not have an installed icon. Install the items again as you normally would. Items that did not install before should now install properly.

It is also advised that you clear your cache files before relaunching the game. This is especially true when adding or removing custom content from the game. The following cache files can be found in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3:

    CASPartCache.package
    CompositorCache.package
    ScriptCache.package
    SimCompositorCache.package

Deleting them should force the game to reload the most current graphics and script data in a pristine state. It is perfectly safe to delete the cache files as the game will automatically regenerate them each time.

Thanks for your help, Nichaedemus, but......it hasn't worked!! I did exactly what you have just said...but no, the sim still wont install! I'm not sure what to do...I guess I'll just give up. I might see if its a mod thats causing a problem, but I'm tired and need some sleep! Thanks again!

I have the exact same problem. I can install other sims3packs, but can't install Sims. My problem started after installing Town Life Stuff. I really hope someone can help us!
  • Hi! Hope someone can help me. But recently I installed 3 EP (ambitions, late night & generations) The game works perfectly, but I wanted to add some CC to my game, but when I want to open the Launcher it says: "There was an error during startup. Please see the Log for more details." And the patch is 0.0.0.0. What can I do?

@KahlanRyan, it might be best to post your issue over in the thread that I will provide as it is a more active thread than this one is as the last comment made was from 2011.
