Can't Travel Anymore

So, I have a family that lived in Bridgeport and one of them is an adventurer, she has traveled plenty of times without problems and has reached level 3 visa in China. I decided to move them to Appaloosa Plains and all went well, no crashing or freezing or anything, my game normally runs consistently pretty well even after playing for a while.

So after moving them to Appaloosa Plains I tried to get my sim to go to France (she has been before with no issues), the loading screen came up and after about a minute or so the game just closed to my desk top. No error message or anything it just closed as if i'd quit the game. Here is what i've tried so far (advice from other forums):

- saving sims to bin and creating a completely new save
- backing up my game
- clearing cache folders
- clearing the travel folders
- going back to the Bridgeport save and seeing if she could still travel in that one - nope.
- deleting loads of programs I don't use from my laptop.
- turning my graphics settings down

I currently have all of the expansion packs installed except Into the Future and Island Paradise as well as some store content and a bit of custom content, not much. I have had all of this stuff installed for months and this is the first time I've had any issues.

Does anyone know what I can do to sort this out or why it's happened?

Thank you :)

  • Update: installed NRAAS traveler, overwatch and error trap mods but the game is still just closing to launcher whenever i try to travel. i've also tried deleting everything from my sims inventory's in case something was corrupting the game after moving but that hasn't helped either. I should've mentioned I also have the deep conversations, story progression and master controller mods installed. this is bugging me so much!!
  • As a test, you don't have to save this, with the NRaas mods in play can you travel to a world that your sims in this game have never seen before like let's say Sunset Valley or is it all destinations and not just the previously visited France (and China) that are crashing the travel transition?

Can you start a new test game in Sunset Valley (for example) and play/travel some random sim to what would be a fresh instance of France from there?
  • @igazor Just tested both these things. My sim can't travel to any other world. I started a new save in Sunset Valley went into the Working Friends household and tried to send one of them to France but the same thing happened, straight to desktop. I have no idea what to do at this point, do you think uninstalling and reinstalling WA would help?
  • No, reinstalling is not likely to help. All that does is replace the program files, which do not change over time or with usage.

So you have identified that it's not the ongoing game that was at fault, but it's any game and any instance of world travel. The next step in troubleshooting would typically be to try again with all non-NRaas mods removed and the scriptcache cleared (deleted) again. But you only have one non-NRaas mod or are there others in play that you haven't told us about? Deep Conversations doesn't sound like it would be a very likely cause. There are others like MSC (More Sim in Clubs) that we know break the travel transitions.

Then the next step would be to pull your entire TS3 user game folder out of Documents and set it aside for safekeeping. On the next launch, a new no-content user game folder will spawn. Can you start up a test game on that one, with no mods or with the Framework reapplied and just your NRaas mods in play, and then travel from one world to another at all? Your content and previously saved games won't be there, but will all be safe in the pulled out folder for adding back in later if we can get this fixed first.
  • @igazor I also had the no sparkles in build mode and the no intro mods which i had forgotten about. I uninstalled both of those and the deep conversations mod and it worked! I have no idea which one was causing the problem but non of them are essential for my game play so i'll probably just leave them all uninstalled.

It's so weird because i've had all 3 of those mods installed for ages and only now has there been a problem! I wonder why that is?

    Thank you for your help!!
  • Ha, that was it? It has to be the Deep Conversations mod (strange). The other two are so widely used since they come with the MTS provided Mods Framework to be used for testing and so many players like them and keep them in place afterwards that we would know about it at NRaas if they caused problems. They are also too simple to be the real culprits, I would say it's safe to put them back if you like them.

Good job figuring that out, though! :)
