CAW for Macs

Does anyone know if it's possible to create a custom world for sims 3 on a Mac? I tried looking it up but no luck.
  • There is a way to get it to work theoretically using tools like x11 and xQuartz, but I don't know of anyone who has been able to make that work since Lion was the current macOS many, many years ago (to be fair, I might be thinking of other game utilities that are lighter weight like S3PE and SaveCleaner). Also given that the Mac version of the game has a built-in 2 GB RAM limit, I would think that would also extend to CAW and that would be far too limiting to work with.

What would work though would be using a PC or a Bootcamped Mac running the Windows version of the game to design worlds and then copying them back to a Mac system, if one has Windows available to them.

The Mac version of the game I'm afraid doesn't have much life left in it for those staying current on their operating system. Sorry to be all gloom and doom about this, but the next macOS to be released this fall, so that's Catalina or 10.15, will not run TS3 at all because Apple is dropping all support for 32-bit only applications and EA never made a 64-bit version of the game (or CAW) for any system.

@igazor I have a mac desktop (late 2013, no disk tray), so are you saying I won't be able to play S3 once fall comes around? :'(

Only if you stay current with the macOS, the age of the Mac doesn't matter in this case. Some users upgrade whenever a new operating system comes out, others stay on somewhat older ones. If you stay on 10.14 (Mojave) or prior, then things will continue to work as they do today. You can tell which operating system you are running from Apple Menu > About This Mac if you aren't sure.

I am on OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 I don't upgrade anything (not tech savvy). I am not playing S4 atm, maybe never. But I don't want to loose my S3!!! Thanks for getting back to me!
