Desktop Setup

So far, I know I need a VGA to DVI adaptor, so I want to make sure that I get the right one and that I don't need anything else. I think I have a DVI-D. I think I need a 'female' adaptor for the VGA end, but I'm not sure- pictures below. Would something like this work?

Then I'd like to know if I need anything else, other than a mouse/keyboard and DVI.

I'm sure all this is super basic knowledge, but this is my first ever desktop and I'm not well versed in tech stuff.
  • As I understand it, DVI-D is digital while VGA is analog so an adaptor probably isn't going to work. Is VGA really the only option coming out of the monitor, no HDMI, Display Port, or any other choices? Not to jump the gun on this yet, but maybe a newer monitor might be in order?
  • Good :) Get a HDMI cable and make sure you are plugging into the graphics card.

Anything else you may need to plug in would be an ethernet cable if you want a direct wired connection for internet. Also, speakers if the monitor doesn't include them already.

@SimplyJen Thank you, I seriously know nothing about this. Trying to learn now!

@igazor After double checking, yes, I think it does have an HDMI.
