Hi @Karritz
Someone else mentioned the codes from the digital game packs being able to be used rather than re purchasing the expansion discs again but as I had no idea at the time that could be done I bought most of the discs and took a chance on the few I had already purchased installing despite them being already registered on Origin and they installed fine and from what Igazor has already pointed out anyone owning the expansion pack discs should have no bother installing them on a pre 2012 game anyway..
@ScottDemon
wow and I thought I was paranoid about backing up and making sure I have different versions of the game.. :)
so from what you are saying I would not be able to download my digital store content and use it with my current disc game because the pre 2012 disc was purchased second hand and would not have the same registry base game key code as my digital version which if I am right in thinking that this is why karritz was able to install her store content because her base game was an original 2009 so the code she was using for the disc game was the same as the digital.. that had been used previously.. ( I am understanding that correctly?)
So I think I was right to be cautious in getting my own store content as although I wasn't sure I believed the article I read that stated any store content downloads/install with a pre 2012 disc required downloading using the base game disc I intended to use as content from the digital game would not work which is why I tried it on my laptop first and after installing the base game only then signing into my store account I was allowed to download all my content which then installed with no bother into my disc game but then later I discovered 2 store worlds were missing and tried to install the digital versions which did not work so I put my disc back in the laptop and downloaded those worlds and they installed on my disc game fine again so I had to concede at that time there was some truth to the previous article I had read about this but now from what you have said I still cannot use the content patch files for my disc game because my base game is not the original code from my digital version of my game... In any version of my game the content patch folder is also empty for me..
reading all this info about this stuff makes me wonder why the store actually allowed me to re download all my content to a base game that was not linked to me lol
I have fully backed up my store content both the digital version and the disc now in 3 different external hard drives, my laptop and on 2 extra internal hard drives I have on my desktop so short of a house fire where I would lose everything I hope I am covered lol I am also pleased now that I decided to install my disc version on another new separate hard drive where only series 2 and 3 are installed, no origin and no internet-)
when you link live editions of the game such as The Sims 3 Plus Showtime is that somehow better to use than a standalone base game disc? I already owned showtime disc that's why i went for the base game disc only..
Thank you so much for explaining this further sometimes stuff like this for me is quite difficult to understand as I don't consider myself to be really techie and if it wasn't for some great knowledgeable players on these forums i would never have managed to achieve the things i wanted to with the game mechanics as I have so far :)
@Feythful
I think from what @ScottDemon is saying you would not be able to download/install your digital store content to your newly bought (second hand) pre 2012 base game because that disc will not have the same registry key codes as the base game you are currently using with your digital origin game but as I have already proved it is possible to download store content using that older base game anyway from the store and install it into your disc game i would just suggest using a different PC to do that with and back everything up on a non origin installed PC and turn the internet off to do it. I think you are really lucky because you have all the other expansion pack discs already and many of us had to pay again for those :)
No what I mean is that you have to re-download your Store Items as the previous downloads from a Origin digital install won't work with a disc install if they have different registry keys. Same thing with a Steam install you'd have to re-download them.
You don't lose your Store Items because your installation type changed they just need to be re-downloaded to work with it.
The link to your Store Items is your login information that's the only thing the Store cares about it doesn't care what type of installation you have. The easiest way to put it is if you have an Origin, Disc and Steam install or even 5 different base game disc installs on different computers you can use the same Store Account for all of them only the Login Information is important.
I linked to Showtime Plus cause well it's 2 discs for the price of 1 and the ones on Amazon as long as you buy New those are not second hand those are unopened never used copies :)
