Family Tree Maker

So I am planning on doing a long legacy and breaking my past record which was only 4 generations. :p I want to make a family tree outside of the sims game that has more detail. I have tried family echo so far and have liked it but I would want a little bit more detail. I want to be able to show how they have died from maybe a frame around the picture. If you search up the De La Sangre family sims on google images you will see what I mean. Could any one give a program like that? Thanks!

Wow! That is exactly what I was going for. That looks great! Well done haha

Choose colours, icons, everything. You can find Sims 3 icons on MTS and use them in your family tree. I also like to add in my family tree where a particular generation lived for instance.

  • I don't typically post recommendations for stuff (unless it's free), but for a reasonable amount of money, I've found Roots Magic to be the best for family tree making. It's very user friendly and definitely helped me keep track of over ten generations of Bartlets. Plus, since a few of my legacy family members have become immortal or been brought back from the dead, Roots Magic lets you put in 200 year lifespans or female Sims giving birth at age 70 with no problem. Since it would not let me use Sim days for birthdates and death dates, I had to convert them into proper years based on the Seasons. Other than that, it's been quite useful.

Thank you for the recommendation, I will look at this for sure.

Also just got promoted to member! Woooohoooo... I probably shouldn't say that on a sims site :)
  • There is a free family tree tool for sims but it was built with The Sims 4 in mind. I only poked at it for a minute just now but it looks like you could use it for The Sims 3 too... Just manually type in traits, lifetime wish, and life state. Doesn't look like there's a way to mark as dead but I could've missed it.

edit: Lokitty1989 already linked it. I saw someone mention it a few months back and had to search the forums to find it again.

  • Just a thought for you, I made a note book of my Dexter family 26 generations. It was a lot of fun, You can add anything you want. I had names, who they married, children, either adopted or birthed, date they died, where they died, traits, what they liked, where they live. You can even print out their pictures from birth to death, or just who they are as a adult, You can even takes pictures of their house and town. there is no limit to what you can do I did it in a notebook but I think that this time around, I am going to do it on word and then I just have to print them out and add what I want. I can then put them in a note book binder.
I still go back and look at my Dexter family and i can keep it forever. You can also use office Onenote.
Anyway have fun no matter what you use.
  • Sounds like a fun project! If you're looking to build a more detailed tree outside the game, a visual tool might help. You can create custom shapes for each sim, add images, and even use borders or color codes to show things like cause of death or traits. It also lets you drag and connect family members easily. I’ve used Creately for something similar; it gives you the flexibility to style each part how you like.
