Fixing my town question

I don't know if this goes here or not, so please let me know.

I want to change up some of the rabbit holes in my town to fit a story I'm working on, but I can't seem to do anything. Like, I want to make the hospital look more like an old penitentiary or make some of the places look a bit worn down. How do you change the appearance of a rabbit hole? If I can't, is there a way to make a new one?

I think you'll need to look for custom rabbit holes. I suspect there is a way to change them but I don't know it. I do know people have done interesting things to their rabbit holes so it must be possible. @Nikkei_Simmer might be able to help as I know he's found some interesting ones.

I tend to stick the the collection of rabbit holes that came with the various expansions and store worlds. Some of them are interesting. You can find them in Build Mode when on a community lot.

The only way I know to recolor rabbit holes is to use these: http://modthesims.info/d/541726/castable-rabbithole-replacements.html

Or, if you want to build your own buildings, you can use rabbit hole rugs, doors or signs to add the rabbit hole function. Here's some info on where to find some of them at Nraas: https://www.nraas.net/community/Building

Edited to add: You can also place the standard rabbit holes in the basement of a building you build yourself, which many people do. Seeing the rabbit holes in a basement kind of bugs me, though, so I use the rugs whenever I want a custom building.

Thanks both. I'll play around with it more.
  • If you are wanting some buildings to replace your current rabbit holes and want something a bit "run down", try one of these lots by Cyclone Sue. That way you have something that you can use right away and just put the rabbit hole rugs inside. I love all her creations and use them in my worlds. I used some of her (assuming they are female) lots to make a sleazy harbor/criminal warehouse and nectary.

  • She has a jail lot too (penitentiary). Just remember her lots include custom content so you might want to use Sims 3 pack cleaner on them if you don't want that content added to your game.
